Marc Jacobs to Dior: the deal's off?

Marc Jacobs's spring collection stolen
There's no suggestion of what the reward might be, though fashion enthusiasts might be hopeful that it'll be a piece of what is left of the collection, which the team assured their Twitter followers they still had in their possession, stating: "We appreciate the concern about our stolen #SS12 collection samples! We do still have other samples thankfully. Life goes on."
After much speculation about how the pieces went missing, it was finally confirmed that the items, which were actually duplicates of original samples which remained in New York, were stolen whilst they were in the possession of a courier who was transferring them from Paris to London.
LuukMagazineUS fashion designer Marc Jacobs has been forced to cancel his European press day following the theft of his entire spring-summer collection en-route from Paris to London.
“Our press day tomorrow (Friday) in the Marc Jacobs store is cancelled due to the theft of the spring/summer 2012 collections during its transfer from Paris,” an e-mail sent from the fashion house to the media revealed.
London’s Metropolitan police force has confirmed it is investigating the case.
“The theft was reported to police, via telephone, after a quantity of clothing, bags and shoes reported to be worth £40,000, ($63,000, 46,800 euros) were found to be missing earlier in the day,” a police spokeswoman said.
“Officers based in Westminster are investigating.”
The items were stolen from a delivery van outside Jacobs’s store in the exclusive London neighbourhood of Mayfair.
The range, which included drop-waist skirts, cellophane cocktail dresses and translucent and tinsel fabrics, was due to go on show on Friday.
The pieces, which were transported by train from Paris to London, have little street value as they are only samples from next season, raising suspicions that counterfeiters were behind the incident.
The theft deprives British fashion editors of the chance to sample next year’s products, putting the Paris-based firm on the back foot.
It is another blow for Jacobs, who last week had his perfume advertising campaign — featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning — banned following accusations that it sexualised children.
VUITTON HEIST: French police are investigating the theft of several hundred thousand euros’ worth of Louis Vuitton merchandise at the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport on the outskirts of Paris, a source close to the inquiry said Friday. No further details were available, as the probe was still ongoing, said the source, who requested anonymity in accordance with official policy regarding police investigations in France. Five masked thieves neutralized a security guard and four employees at the airport’s freight terminal overnight, making off with around 10 pallets of merchandise valued at a minimum of 300,000 euros, or $400,760 at current exchange, according to French news agency AFP. Officials at Louis Vuitton declined to comment on the report. Earlier this month, thieves made off with parts of the Marc Jacobs spring sample collection in London.
Words: Rosie DaltonLess than a month after Marc Jacobs’ entire Spring/Summer collection was stolen from a Paris train bound for London, another high fashion robbery has taken place in France. This time, the culprits struck at a French airport and it was Louis Vuitton that fell victim to the heist. The luxury thieves held a security guard and four employees hostage at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport’s freight terminal while they loaded approximately AUD $400 000 worth of Louis Vuitton bags into trucks.
This recent trend for high fashion thievery isn’t exactly in the festive spirit. And it’s not like the culprits can just stroll down the street with the LV totes on their arm or the Marc Jacobs on their back. The saddest part is that the masked thieves probably can’t even appreciate the beauty of a well-tailored jacket or the art behind crafting the perfect handbag. To all those thieves out there, show a little respect and stop being such a Grinch!
