Marchesa S/S 11 New York

I don't think they'll ever do a runway again because most of the dresses they make now, save for the drapey goddess stuff, don't move nicely. A lot of what they do is either incredibly bulky, incredibly stiff, or both. It kind of works on a red carpet because an actress isn't really walking, just slowly shuffling a few feet at a time, but put any of their origami folded/tulle smothered/hobbled mermaid dresses on a runway on a model that has to move at a certain pace and they'd surely lose a bit of their luster.

same old, same old..i feel like that I'm having deja vu....
the third one reminds me of Rihanna's dress on AMA last year, might be because of the digital cutting...

If Marchesa was food...I would've thrown up by now. Overly saccharine, derivative and lacking in substance, as always. It seems that in this collection they've ripped off Dior.

Jeez I can only imagine how many celebrities and stylist are already fighting for these dresses to use for the red carpet.

I actually quite liked this collection, save the ghastly final two dresses. It's definitely Rodarte meets Christian Dior- when isn't it- but for what it is, it's good. They make dresses for red carpets, and for red carpet dresses, these are pretty daring and different. They'll cut a different figure at whatever awards show they show up at, which will be a nice little change I think.

I think this is a good point, Marchesa has carved out a niche of standout red carpet dresses, but there is no signature or dominating silhouette or textile. No doubt some purists consider this a bad thing, along with the fact that many Marchesa looks are derivatives of Dior and other designers, but the Marchesa brand of uniqueness seems to be a good thing for those actresses / celebs trying to create a red carpet moment.

While of course versions of that origami dress have been featured in a number of Marchesa collections, their schtick does not begin and end with that dress. I doubt if too many people don't believe that Marchesa's ties to The Weinstein Company played a role in their early success but at present there are Weinstein actresses who do not wear Marchesa (exclusively) and non-Weinstein actresses who do, so however which way they got here they are for the most part standing on their own.

I saw Kelly Osbourne wearing Marchesa in E! earlier today and the women with her loved it. It's enough for me to feel like BLAH about it, when BLAH people like E! reporters are all over what they think fashion is really about

Are they really though? No doubt they're extreme dresses, but I think the tricks distract from the fact that these are the same entrance making dresses that women have been relying on for half a century; ballgown, siren gown, goddess gown. They're basics on steroids.

Some gorgeous dresses as usual but we've seen everything already!
You can find Lanvin,Dior, and previous Marchesa collection inspirations in a lot of the pieces
Not really liking the white origami dress and the ultra ruffled one...they are ridicolous and lacks in identity
