Maria Sharapova

shouldn't this be in Starstyle Thread? Anyhoo, Maria has grown another 1.5 inches within a year! She's 6'3.5"! and only 19. but her stats still list her as 6'2". B)

Centre Court bore witness to a personal resurrection this afternoon when Amelie Mauresmo battled through to her first Wimbledon final – and retained her world number one spot to boot – by beating 2004 champion Maria Sharapova.
To a huge ovation from the crowd Mauresmo came back from a disastrous second set to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to secure her place in Saturday’s final, where she will play Justine Henin-Hardenne. It will be an intriguing occasion as it will be a rerun of the Australian Open final from January, which the Belgian decided not to complete as a result of stomach ache, handing Mauresmo the title.

I have just watched an interview with her, she said she was going off to topshop for some retail therapy after her defeat.

here's an article i thought might be funny:
...about Sharapova's grunting...

from dailymail.co.uk

Dementieva raises issue of Sharapova grunting

Elena Dementieva remained, for the most part, gracious in defeat after being knocked out of the last eight at Wimbledon by Russian compatriot Maria Sharapova.
However, the 24-year-old did admit her opponent's noisy returns can be a little unsettling after Sharapova's trademark grunting once more reared its head on Centre Court.
"Personally I think it's a little bit too much but that's the way she's been playing for a long time," Dementieva said following her straight-sets loss.
"I think the umpire should maybe step in and come down on her a little bit, but that's just the way she is."
Yet Dementieva was reluctant to complain to the chair umpire for fear of being seen as a bad loser.
"Perhaps the best way to stop it is to beat her. And next time I beat her I may say something (to the umpire)," she added.
"But when you're losing 6-1 4-1 it doesn't look good if you're going to go up to the umpire and start talking about how loud she's screaming on the court."
As it was, the grunting was the least of Dementieva's problems after her first quarter-final appearance at SW19 proved to be a short-lived affair.
Sharapova needed just 27 minutes to wrap up the opening set, and although she let slip a 4-0 lead in the second, the former Wimbledon champion held off her opponent's challenge to seal a 6-1 6-4 victory in one hour and 10 minutes.
Dementieva, who came into the match relatively fresh following a 6-2 6-0 rout of Shenay Perry, was more than impressed by the fourth seed after Sharapova's own fourth-round clash involved a three-set slog against Flavia Pennetta.
"I think what's so special about her (Sharapova) is that she's a fighter," Dementieva continued. "It's just amazing how focused she can be and that she can stay and fight from the first point to the end.
"I was watching her match yesterday and it was a very tough match for her to win.
"Yet today she came out even stronger and was playing even better. And she's still improving in her game. "But still, this was my first experience playing in the quarter-finals and let's hope this experience will happen again in the future," Dementieva added.

I think she has a great body, but I think that her face isn't that cute. Anyways, that's my oppinion and I respect the other ones.
Something good about Maria? Is that she's really focus in her career and she's a very down feet earth girl. Something that I really like :-)

well, she's not a model so i wouldn't feel right critiquing her face/looks. but i do find it annoying that they make her out to be this bombshell/diva (can't find the right description?) type with the whole "paparazzi" thing (from a commercial for the us open, they asked what she was bringing she said paparazzi) and some canon powershot commercial.
