Matthieu Blazy - Designer, Creative Director of Chanel

Based of that design , I very strongly predict Blazy's Chanel will be a resounding flop but the clapping seals in the industry will prop him up for a few years.
I’m sure we will get plenty of gimmicky merch like we did at bottega. Next up Chanel x Richard Scarry, Chanel x Flos, Chanel leather animal chairs, etc. I do like him and I didn’t mind his BV but I really feel unsure about how this will turn out.

FASHION’S HISTORIC SHAKE-UP

MATTHIEU BLAZY for
CHANEL
Mr. Blazy, 41, snagged the most coveted job in fashion in December after a six-month search by Chanel. He will be only the fourth designer in Chanel’s history, tasked with transforming the brand for a new generation. Most recently he did exactly that for Bottega Veneta, with a fashion sleight of hand that made leather look like denim — and leather look like cotton, and leather look like flannel. Now, as he comes home to Paris, he is expected to work a similar alchemy on the pearls, camellias and CCs of the house that Coco built and Karl Lagerfeld redefined.
I feel best wearing: Nothing
I am never caught wearing: A printed T-shirt
Item I will never give up: The broken Bulova Accutron watch my father gave me
Favorite piece of art: “The Three Graces” by Lucas Cranach the Elder
Favorite cologne: Vetiver
Favorite ice cream flavor: Stracciatella
Favorite bed linen: Always white
Favorite music for working out: 1990s Euro dance

It's absurd to enjoy Chanel while looking down at another designer for merchandising.

He might actually be a good fit at Chanel with their hula hoop purses, folded menu purses, the grocery basket, the inflatable boat, the surfboard, the CC table tennis set, the dozens of special edition minaudières, etc.

Those things were camp for Chanel and to be honest aligned with the brand plus at times the current collection. No one ever said Chanel wasn’t merchandising crazy. I don’t think Matthew was trying to be camp with his offerings, rather felt he wanted them to be considered intellectual which is why I called them gimmicks. I’m actually looking forward to seeing what he brings but we can also be critical of prior work and use it for a basis of opinion on the future predictions.

I’m genuinely excited for Matthieu Blazy’s debut at Chanel. I really want to become his fan because, since Armani’s death, I need 1 more great designer to root for each season – I just hope I can add Matthieu to my roster of pillars at fashion week LOL. Hopefully, he will carry on the monumental legacy left by Gabrielle Chanel and Karl. God, I need to rekindle my excitement for the name CHANEL once again 😩.

I'm excited too I think hes going to do a great job, but These guys need to grow up and have a little bit of arrogance. What a horrible photo to take.He needs to dress up. Karl would dress up and look great Tom Ford had a certain allure about him.I wanted to be Tom ford as a kid.I wanted to be like karl because they look so great. Donatella put on her highest shoes because she cared. Galliano over the top! It's a part of the selling tactics. The designers have to look good or interesting. Demna looks homeless and hes going to Gucci it makes no sense 😕.

because its millennium normcore they are all round 40 years old its cringe to make an effort :-)

but i agree some presentation effort for press pic should be more respectful approach, instead of pretending always to be so approachable and down to earth while you push on people the wildest silly merch and asking top dollars.

act like you care because they do care behind closed doors trust me !!lol

Hmmm I don’t think being dressed up is that matter. Cristobal Balenciaga dressed so basic as general upper-class men of his time, same with Dior. I have never seen Armani wear an interesting suit, Issey Miyake’s style is just as any grandpa’s from 80s Japanese films, Azzedine with same old same old black Chinese-like shirt. Mcqueen, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Haider Ackermann, Dries etc has boring as sh*t personal style and I don’t think they even care about it.

Azzedine had a uniform that's different and it looked chic and effortless you cant compare that with a sweater & jeans and vans sneaker.

Dior and Cristobal dressed elegantly in suit just like Yves if thats basic then we need to rewrite the meaning of basic sure more normal to wear suit during that time sure. we cant expect them to wear skirts or a couture blouse lol not everyone is John etc.

Mc queen did dress up for shoots or red carpets and was also casual at his shows and also would come out in suits that is called range !!!!

Haider does dress up in suits and makes effort i don't like it mostly but he does make styling efforts

Nicolas is classic paris gay i don't even want to start he never know hot to dress not even casually he never looks cool or elegant he is forever stuck in in leather jackets bombers and so rolled up jeans and combat style doc´s alternative or sports shoes the type of guy gay dress up alike that you see at the train station and you look for your wallets and walk faster .........

I think what most that comment on the lack of dressing is more ment as in range of dressing like effort for some occasion is still human and showing respect to the host of the event etc

Lee per example range of dressing up in suits and also has casual dressing.... a man in well cut suit is never boring and can still show personality.

people just want some effort :-) dressing (as if) like you dont care is like being on social media and say your private person.....

I f*cking love Lee aww , the industry was so hard on him, he was a real bad a**, but if he was around to day he most definitely would have gotten out of the industry.

He was a real british punk making rules and breaking rules as he goes and as he pleases

Was the industry really ever been hard on him? Really?
Some what. Yes and no and in the beginning very much, it was mostly the sales and I think a lot of it got to his mind. He wasn't a Tom Ford and he wasn't a Karl Lagerfeld. He couldn't disassociate like a fashion designers, he would get hurt like an artist like a painter. He put his whole heart and mind into the show, and that heart was on his sleeve. But yes a lot of hurtful things happened to him. When Tom Ford got fired from gucci he said he drink everyday for a year, so yes McQueen was hurt. Damn, we are way off subjects from the thread 🤣

he was not one of the easy favorites via the press that was for sure what i remembered he did not play along with every industry fakeness etc .... i mean the knick name enfant terrible was not for nothing ...totally agree with the idea of the him getting hurt and lash out like an artist putting in all his feelings in to his craft and in his interviews he always was speaking his mind very unfiltered but also with humor and bluntness if you hear his reactions to questions etc

i really like lee when he talks about stuff much like karl in his own way they did say things that people liked to shy away from etc

Hmm…
Ok. I mean It’s a bit hard for me to over-romanticize the figure of McQueen…

He was a talent, a genius of course. He was very sensitive and I have always though that the « enfant terrible » persona that he created for himself had more to do with his insecurities and, evolving in that world that was so far removed socially from his background, it helped him.

But he was just rude. And because he was a genius, he got a lot of pass.

I don’t ever remember a time when the industry was difficult to him. The only people who criticized him were from another era. He was embraced quite a lot by the establishment. That doesn’t mean that his personal life wasn’t difficult.

But as far as the industry…

When I think of people who were really hurt by the industry, I think about people like Claude Montana. If you are extremely sensitive, you can be quite vulnerable in the industry as money and power becomes harmful when it affect his work.

In a way Lee transformed his emotions into very beautiful shows. But as far as the industry goes, he was celebrated, recognized for his genius quite early in his career and it only went higher as years went by.
