I like the concept. Pulling it off in everyday life might be tricky. We still seem to be in a backlash against the super-tight, body-hugging dresses of a few years back, or maybe even less time than that. I appreciate this style more because it has an aura of mystery to it. If the fabric drapes right, it looks elegant and confident. The pitfall of many skin-tight dresses is that they come off as trying too hard to be sexy. I think that's why I look at this style and see confidence.

Maxi Dresses

Seems to be floating around quite more predominantly over here in Australia. I'm not really a fan as I don't think I can pull it off considering I'm pretty short.. however it looks so fantastic on some ladies

Nothing but Love

I don't have a problem with maxi dresses. Some may argue that they fail to show off the curves of a lady. But the amount of flare to these dresses are amazing. I love airy clothes for ladies. It is an absolutely feminine and beautiful style. I have very little to argue about with these dresses. One thing I've also liked about these maxi dresses (especially like the ones posted in Post #26) is how elegant these dresses are. One probably imagines the most stylish dresses usually worn by celebrities at formal functions in regard to the style of these dresses. However, they are every bit of everyday fashion as your favorite jeans and whatever footwear you compliment them with. I would sure love to see this Spring or Summer dresses like these. Summers can get pretty hot here in Houston (usual highs in the low to mid 90s). I'm sure ladies wearing dresses like these will add a few more degrees Farenheit to Houston's already hot summers. I tend to like the more elegant dresses shown in this thread. A good pair of sandals would suffice for these dresses. However, I wouldn't count out pumps, espadrilles, and dressy sandals complimenting these beautiful dresses. Boots may even work, but I see this more as a Spring and Summer fashion. Maybe Fall as well. I don't see this look working for the Fall/Autumn and Winter seasons. I see no reason why any lady should pass up wearing dresses as lovely as these.

With Spring here in the United States, I'm wondering if this will really become something femmes will get into wearing. I see more skirts than dresses around my way. I just don't know if these dresses would catch on. I love fullness in dresses. I admire the breezy and comfortable more than the skin-tight and appealing. I'm talking about dresses with real women. I feel that the trend of wearing belts around the belly and below the bustline come into play. I just imagine if wearing a belt around the waist would provide a great look for ladies who dare wear maxi dresses. Wearing belts around the belly was a trend I commended. Belts around the abdomen with these dresses may be a must for those who still want to showcase body curves. Otherwise (as someone else mentioned), femmes may look like tents. I kind of fear maxi dresses for a safety reason- like being around escalators and stuff while wearing a floor-length maxi dress.

With Spring comes wedges and sandals. A casual wedge to go with are those "Dilemma" sneaker wedges by American Eagle. I've seen girls wear these wedge sneakers (considered sneakers even though they aren't laced sneakers, but otherwise slip-on shoes), and just about all femmes I've seen look cute wearing these shoes. The slip-on nature makes them easy to wear and can be a dressy alternative to wearing bulky sneakers that have laces. The classy option for wedges to go with these maxi dresses are to wear some peep-toe wedge espadrilles or peep-toe wedge pumps. Some ladies have cute feet. I've grown on the appeal of peep-toe pumps and shoes. I do believe more than ever that these shoes can be truly stylish with any kind of look. I'd love to see these dresses catch on as well as seeing how ladies would pair these up with shoes or even belts.

i loved this last summer and i am going to do it again this summer i love it :flower: although i feel being only 5"1 it makes me look so so so short but i dont care

recon it will be as big this summer as it was last summer ?? i can remember last summer going into clubs and literally every girl was wearing a maxi dress

It's a trend I've never tried out I think I'm put off by 'boho' and I'm really particular when it comes to floral prints.

I didn't really see it much SnowQueen , I wish I had it's a very simple way of dressing.

I never follow Roberto Cavalli but he has some very pretty examples.

Would you all be happier if the length of these dresses were just past the knees or mid-calf? Or do you think the length of these dresses adds to their appeal?

These dresses are so beautiful and extremely comfortable for the summer. I have a few especially for hot summer days.

John_M, personally I believe the exaggerated lengths of the dresses have a lot if not everything to do with their appeal. :flower:

Those Sonia Rykiel maxi dresses are very artistic. The blend of white and pale yellow color makes the dress look angelic. There is a true sense of divinity in wearing these Sonia Rykiel dresses. Those of you who love angels and dresses would probably love the Sonia Rykiel dresses from Post #30.

Do you femmes on here think maxi dresses are more casual, more formal, or a little of both?

^^ last summer i saw them being everything .. day wear, clubbing wear and more formal stuff as well as around the office .. it was fab  .. i think its a different type of maxi dress for day though more lighter fabrics and maybe cheesecloth esqe fabrics and maybe more hippyish were as evening more refined and clubbing more heavy patterned :flower:

they are so beautiful and make me want to have one like now, but where does one wear such a dress to?
I like the fabric a lot, but i guess i'd prefer a shorter one

I've been thinking of getting one for at least a year now but I'm too much talk and in this case will and too little action. But soon soon. =) i'll wear them whit flat summersandals I think, don't like the look as much with heels.

i like them only as daywear, made out of linen or soft cotton
but for me, they need to be either monochrome or block-multicoloured

the way i see them, maxi prints or maxi floating chiffons are making this trend either very 'woodstock' or simply 'grandmother-ish'

I've always loved maxi dresses, but being petite makes it a bit difficult. Last summer, I didn't see one petite lady look 'amazing' in one, they just seemed really short. I guess heels are a must if you're petite and wearing a maxi.
Looking at the images in post #26, I think the second photo would actually work really well for the petite as it is slightly pulled in at the bottom, but without losing the elegance of maxi dresses and without cutting off any height (I think). I'd definitely wear that, but with a skinny belt.

I agree the fabric of the Sonia Rykiel ones is beautiful but they're very 70s , the highstreet unfortunately seems to stick ruffles and tiers or lace edging , I think maxi dresses need to be quite simple and understated because wearing such long garment is a statement in it's self.

i love maxi dresses.. i just find it really hard to find a nice one.
