Does anyone have any links to or phtographs of this collection?
I've been searching for a good few days and can't find any :(.
I'm doing a presentation at uni about some people's view that his shows are misogynistic and have to argue the point that they aren't to my group. I think by the sounds of it, this collection would be an excellent visual aid for this talk, but really struggling finding ANY photos... :(!

Which season was that collection?! '95,no?

The outrageousness of McQueen's shows has led to accusations of misogyny (an accusation often leveled at gay designers for the supposed fantasy women they try to create) and exploitation, but the "bad boy of fashion" is quick to counter these accusations. "Highland r*pe," he explained, was about the "r*pe" of Scotland by the British, a subject that had a personal resonance as his family is of Scottish descent.
Moreover, he insisted that his attitude towards women is informed by his having witnessed as a child scenes of violence involving his sister: "Everything I've done since then was for the purpose of making women look stronger, not naïve," he was quoted in The Independent Fashion Magazine in 2000, "models are there to showcase what I'm about, nothing else. It's nothing to do with misogyny."

Well,I couldn't find any images but I did find this very poignant explanation from McQueen regarding that collection.

Ah thankyou :)
That's pretty useful! Merci :flower:
Yeah, I'm having so much difficulty finding photos of that collection considering how much is written about it!

Try going to the library. The TT section is where there are books about contemporary designers... if you can go to a university library.:flower:

(if you already went, ignore my advice):p

I can't recall hearing of a McQueen book, but many recent fashion history books include highland r*pe pictures because they're so historically important.

Hum .. ws that his debut collection? The one who was bought entirely by Izzy Blow?

no, this was his second collection.

If you can get Fashion at the Edge: Spectacle, Modernity, and Deathliness by Caroline Evans at your library, it talks about the collection and on what it actually meant to McQueen. I believe part of it was due to his sister being in a bad domestic relationship, and he wanted people to be afraid of the women he clothed. Oh, hah, yeah, similar to what Scott found. Anyway, there will be more analysis and pictures in the book.

Yeah, my first stop was the library. I found an article on him, and knew of a few books anyway, but there's no specific books about him as far as I can find, and am having trouble finding any photos of that collection :(!

OH and, Fashion at the edge-I have that one-there's so much about McQueen in it-read it before. It's really useful. Thanks for the suggestion though!

McQueen started in 94... so it would be his third or fourth collection...

look at fashion at the edge by caroline evans - the book is practically dedicated to discussing mcqueen - also i feel a collection that would be more relevant to you would be the collection he did for Givenchy - Ecclect Dissect from fall 1998 - which was inspired by the written works of the marquis de sade and a surgeon who travels the world collecting exotic artefacts as well as women!! its amazing look at the book!!

bonjourno x

berlin, are those ones you saved from the retrospective thread? those i posted are from contemporary fashion archive.

^no i have them for longer than the time i'm onto tfs....
but maybe contemporary and i had the same source.... because their photos are very similar to mine....
really don't remember where mine are coming from.... maybe firstview....
