^^^^actually, her ranking is 40% real facts and 60% hype ... models.com like to do this, ie to overrated models and underrated others and then keep them for a while without getting campaigns or major works,...until they are dropped....sad but true (ex sessile, rose, ranya, jamie bochert....or miranda. love her but she is too high, imo .....etc) just came to my mind that Ming deserves a spot, now!:judge:

though, Saskia will be great!:flower:

Catherine Mcneil needs to be dropped too

I agree many underrated models in the rankings
especially Karmen and Miranda isnt doing anything and they are still keeping her and that high ?

Barbara Palvin , Dafne Cejas , Rose Cordero and Catherine should be removed.I agree with you on Miranda , is she really going to continue her momentum?

It depends if Meisel picks her up again. No model is ever gaurenteed a major comeback after any kind of a break. Natasha, lara, Anja, Freja have never taken breaks and I think that's why they've managed to stay on top. No matter how big your moment is if you disappear someone will replace you, did you ever think that Toni Garrn, one of the most beautiful models ever could see her moment end? Well she took a break, and at the wrong time and so her career suffered.

yes, agreed with Modela
and I think Laís Ribeiro should be in
and Kamen Pedaru have to be on the top ten!!!

daria took a break and she is doing damn well. i guess it depends on many factors such as timeless beauties, talent, connection, etc.

^ If the criteria you itemized was used then several of the models on the icon list would be dropped. It is to be expected that the models on the icon list would be inactive / low profile for periods of time because they are having children, locked up in exclusive contracts and / or pursuing other interests.

My two cents is that once an icon, always an icon, it's really more of a matter of whether or not your rank is high enough to be profiled on MDC's website.
Mercedes-Benz is relevant to fashion in that they sponsor fashion weeks in multiple cities.

this thread is all about working models/icons and i believe that mdc criterias state: The VIP club: those working "icons" of the moment - defined as celebrity models with public recognition, established longevity and a major magazine cover within the last 3 years.

so im sure these girls deserve their spots.

Barbara Palvin scored a Chanel beauty campaign, opened the Chanel Pre-Fall show and was a few steps away from Karl when he did his final walkabout at the SS2011 show, she should not be dropped.

you have a valid point but sometimes a break never hurts you. iselin steiro constantly takes breaks for schooling and is always booked for excellent stuff. i guess you need great relationships to stay relevant after taking a break.i don't know if miranda has managed to do that.

I Agree, as a model you must never stop working
because there will always be someone waiting in line to fill in your position if you take a break. considering the shelf life of models, I think working constantly is important unless you're an icon already ?

Sasha's peak was 2008, Natasha was 2009 and Freja was in 2010
and the reason they are still here is because they are still constantly working

rose has been in every major magazine this month.last season she didnt have many things, but she is doing great right now,she also have ed coming up in major magazines.also she have a major cover coming up.the only place she should move is up.

i'm so agree, with everyone who said, karmen on top 10, and miranda, please? just move to under 10..

Well I guess V.S. will pick up Miranda again because clearly she sells well and generates publicity. High fashion clients seem to be a lot more fickle though.

love how coco just basically said **** you to this ridiculous list. here's what she wrote on her tumblr

As I write this blog I’m somewhere over the Atlantic, half way between England and America. I took this little 36 hour excursion to attend the ELLE Style Awards in London last night and I’m so very glad I did, I had an amazing time.

Before I explain why, I should just preface this with a little story: With the constant influx of new girls into the modeling world and the fickle nature of fashion in general, we models are always worrying about our “position” within the industry. Are we losing favor? Is our demand dropping? There’s no place this is more apparent than on a certain website which shall be left unnamed - on this site they apparently use some formula to rate models careers. I’m not sure how they come to their decisions but a lot of people, fans and professionals alike, will follow their ratings as if it were the Dow Jones Industrial or NASDAQ! Needless to say, I was aware of my “ranking” over the years but then, in the middle of 2010 I dropped from their top 10 and completely off their top 50 list.

Whats that saying? “You can’t win them all”? - Well, at least I can win a few of them

I am very happy to tell you that I’m coming home with a beautiful award for “ELLE’s Model Of The Year 2011”!! This will go up on my mantel, right next to the “Marie Claire Model Of The Year” award I received a few months ago in Paris. How insane is that?! Its astounding to me that two of the worlds biggest magazines have consider me for this title. Who knows, maybe the unnamed website will recalculate my ranking now - Although I secretly hope not, apparently the lower my ranking with them, the more awards I get, hehe.

All jokes aside, I guess the lesson in all of this is not to put too much weight into other peoples opinions. Yes, according to two magazines I was “Model Of The Year” but not everyone feels that way, and neither is that opinion any more valid than the opinion of the website who decided that I don’t rank amongst the top 50 working models.

To be honest, I’m thankful for both the praise and the criticism I receive. Both only make me want to work harder. Speaking of which, its time for this model to get back to work! New York fashion week is almost over

xoxo
COCO

i really wouldn't say she's bitter. she's just simply stating the truth. the list is ridiculous and she gives a perfect example. two highly prominent magazines in the world have given her model of the year awards, which is more than a #1 spot on models.com will ever give these girls. clearly the industry doesn't care who models.com says is the best working model and neither should we. just because a girl is dropped from the list doesn't mean it's the end of the world.

If she didn't care about her ranking on this list, she wouldn't write this blog, it sounds so needy, I don't think it's wise to gripe this way, maybe her agency would tell her to delete it tomorrow ,anyway ,wish her better luck in 2011

i mean totally agree with her,is so lame that new models are ranked higher then models who have been working for years!
just like a said before this list is becoming so lame!

Exactly. If the list doesn't bother her, she shouldn't waste her time writing that entry. She's mad.

Who cares? She was big in 2007. She was over a long time ago and does not deserve a place on the top 50.

And how Elle UK managed to make her "model of the year" is beyond me. It sounds like the jury had way too much champagne.
