Melania Trump

Wonderful idea and I can't believe there isn't already one. The intersection between fashion and politics with First ladies is fascinating. So many conflicting demands of a president's wife to be attractive yet modest, fashion-forward yet conservative, supporting national vs international labels , and of course the optics of the wife of a world leader wearing expensive clothing bought with money largely generated by the citizens amidst socio-economic unrest

And of course the iconic lewks and personalities, for example,

and many many more.
I'm an American and Brigitte Macron's is absolutely fabulous totally contemporary chic all the way.

Melania does wear clothes well because she is statuesque. My issue with her inauguration looks is they didn’t look very lux. They were dull & austere. The hat was weird but it makes me wonder why? Does it help with the glare - I don’t know but it’s not my thing.
I liked Usha Vance’s blue shimmery dress.

I think that if you think about what she went through in the past years, the context might provide a clue.
Even this thread is filled with vicious racist comments towards an "eastern" girl.
If I were her I would have dressed myself in a vintage Galliano pirate dress :shifty:

Separately, I found Laura Bush's style much under-appreciated. I remember the controversy about the free Oscar de la Renta outfits back in the days, but she ages gracefully and carries herself with dignity even through today. I'm saying this as someone who consider her husband one of the worst presidents in US history. I think that we all need to disassociate the first ladies from their husbands and think from the female perspective. Being first ladies is not easy!

Glad to know that ODLR had dressed Laura Bush! And I did some research he also dressed Nancy Reagan.

Exactly 20 years ago. I remember that issue vividly because it was a year before I got married. That dress
Though I don't like the bodice.
