Men In Skirts

^ He's so cute :p Only the eyes look the same.

Oh dear, you had to ask me ... I don't remember where I read it. Maybe I'll come across it again ... My head is stuffed full of random, unattributable knowledge ;)

You sometimes still hear the expression "in short pants," even though it's been quite some time since that was the common practice ...

^I think what you guys are talking about is breeching...

Breeching was the occasion when a small boy was first dressed in breeches or trousers. From the mid-16th century[1] until the late 19th or early 20th century, young boys in the Western world were unbreeched and wore gowns or dresses until an age that varied between two or three and seven or eight.[2] It was an important rite of passage in the life of a boy, looked forward to with much excitement. It often marked the point at which the father became more involved with the raising of a boy.[3]

god,i haven't seen this thread in ages

its such a subjective argument,is it not? it all boils down to personal taste and how one wears them. i certainly can't imagine some muscle guy parading about in a petty-coat HA! but i have seen some interpretations that really do work well on the guys whose style the skirt it connects with. i posted a photo from a jurgi persoons collection earlier in this thread(probably disappeared now)and the model who wore it had a style that was totally fit for it.

btw, remember the cockettes?? for some reason i was thinking about them when posting. they were fantastic in their pantomime garb.

Skirts a just for attention whores. No man can honestly look themselves in the mirror and say that they look right in a skirt.

There's a designer, I think an Asian guy based in New York, who wears only skirts ... I believe his uniform is a black kilt. I can't search for pix because I don't remember his name ... anyone know who I'm talking about? He does pull it off btw ...

anyone who is dissing men in skirts should look to comme des garcon's homme plus collection for the last two seasons and also to yohji yamamoto for some great man in skirt action. they do it welll!

in itself, i don't think the skirt is striking at all. meaning, it's neither flattering nor unflattering. i'm not saying "wow"
but, as part of an ensemble, it helps open doors for expression and creativity in menswear in the future. hopefully it's not just a trend or for shock value. i'd like to see more men wearing skirts in public!

^ A rhapsody about Bryan Boy (wearing that Lanvin Bette Davis T I liked ... until now) & his ilk? I must say, I do not find this to be at all the same thing as men in skirts ;)

^It's men's appropriation of clothing that society normally associates with women, just like skirts...

And back off Yu Masui. He's amazing. :ninja:

^(teetering away here) oh god,its awful!! it's completely off-putting pairing those pieces together. not even nonchalant it's just boring.

My general feeling about men in skirts, or the men listed in that feature for that matter (not so much with Bryan Boy, he's just a proud flaming label wh*re, and I can at least wrap my head around that) is that, regardless of the intent it always looks like a very deliberate, calculated attempt at being edgy and let's face it, planning how to be edgy is pointless.

But I do realize that my perception is totally based on the fact that men wearing distinctly feminine clothes (as opposed to androgynous or feminine inspired clothes that are in fact for men) isn't widely practiced or accepted. But I just can't help but see it and feel like the wearer is trying very hard to be different instead of just happening to be different natrually....if that makes any sense.

^Those are exactly my thoughts. Its obvious that men who wear skirts, or wear anything too feminine, are obviously doing it for the attention. Unless its one of those ethnic outfits like in Hawii or something.
Bryan boy....Im not gonna comment on him because I'll be removed from the forums.
