Men's Denim

Haha, well, the customized 501's, the "Eo", Reds, and if you know of anywhere there are pics of the tan jeans also. Sorry, that's alot to ask, I just love jeans.

Amazing pair of Edwin jeans... the technique of making it look worn is terrific.. every man should have a pair of broken in jeans.

Ya hehe... this is more for the grunge type of streetewear. maybe a mix of skateboarders + grunge fav.. but the wash sure is incredible

i've seen some nice edwins (some great ones at thrift stores too) but those are just wrong.

haha... looks like it's quite abit off mainstream in this forum lol, it's an incredible wash if u r into those dirty worn out look.. it's really hard to make it so realistic ;)

^I appreciate a good realistic dirty wash, but that's the thing...these don't look realistic to me at all. But that's just me. :)

Those Edwin jeans are terrible...i think the Dior Homme 21 cm version jean is a better option for that 'grunge/skateboard' look if that's what you're going for...they fit low on the hips for a relaxed, slouchy look and the distressing techniques on their dirty wash styles are a lot more tasteful. Also the saggy/creasing effect on the knees look cool as hell!

Levis vintage are now at

http://www.aloharag.com/highseas/assets/images/english/store/men/lv/clv.htm

I am wondering if they are all made from selvage denim?

Not sure about those jeans Nqth, most do not look like proper LVC to me - maybe part of this "premium" eange. The 1947s (they call them Charlie for some reason) though look ok. Those will be selvedge.

Much much nicer LVC jeans on www.hanon-shop.com . Check out the 1944 and 1966 "rinsed" jeans - very nice if you ask me. Those certainly will be selvedge.

Thanks to all who contributed for a great, informative thread on my favorite fashion subject!

I have been out of the loop and seem to have completely missed the ascendance of APC jeans.

I have heard a lot of buzz about Blueblood but the ones I saw at the store did not move me.

I am still unable to find Dior Homme in SF.

This thread has inspired me to visit a likely source to see if they have APC or Nudie. I have been curious about Nudie for a while. I am not a person who is comfortable ordering jeans with the knowledge that I may have to send back one or two pairs to find the right size, or that the cut just doesn't fit me. I have to try them on before committing.

I am puzzled at all the controversy about Diesel. They make a wide variety of washes, from quiet to noisy, and while some styles are "over-detailed" and busy-looking, with odd hardware or stitching, there are also some basic 5-pocket ones with classic fits. I have several pairs and have never had any quality issue with tearing fabric, loose hardware etc. They are not my favorite maker but I wonder at the animosity they generate. I would say the worst thing about the brand is that it is overexposed.

Girbaud do not fit me, at all. You need to be wasp-waisted to wear them, at least all the ones I've ever tried on.

I am curious about those of you who are buying the raw denim jeans and wearing them (for months?) without washing them. Quite plainly, don't they ever start to smell? I am not accusing anyone here of poor hygiene! Maybe I am clumsy. Sometimes I spill food on myself, or someone else spills something on me. Sometimes I perspire. Anyway, how are you managing?

Wecome back, tangerine :flower:

I've head my Dior raw denim's for over a year, and they look as crisp as they did on day one. Maybe it's because I don't wear them often? Besides, you could dry clean the raw denim, no?

faust you are lucky if your dior raw jeans have remained intact! Which season is yours from, perhaps an older version might be made of sturdier quality? My S/S 05 pair is already starting to wear in the crotch...then again i wore it pretty much every day this last semester at school.

there's nothing i love better than a pair of stiff selvage jeans that i have to wear in myself. i wear mine as long as possible w/out washing them so i can get some really nice distressing on them and then i do the transformation wash. i wore my first APC's for about 10 months before i washed em and they turned out awesome! i havent washe dmy others yet and i imagine it'll take longer since i have more than one pair to wear in now.

some advice on APC's -- they have different names in different countries so i listed them in order from loosest to tightest . . .

English = Anglaise -- the fuller, straight leg jean that fits like a Diesel Kratt but with a flatterring slighty, lower waist.

Rescue -- waist is slightly higher than the English and the legs are slightly tighter, but it is a straight leg just like the English. the website says 'bootleg' which means its still straight but its wide enough to fit boots under, not flared at all

New Standard = Unisex -- rise is about 2 inches shorter in the front and back compared to the 2 above and the leg is tighter and tapers a little to the bottom. if you hem them up more than 3 or 4 inches it kind of gets rid of the taper, but i left mine long cuz i wanted them to bunch up and form fades at the cuff.

Hipster = Women's -- essentially the same fit as the New Standard but it comes in smaller sizes and the back pockets are smaller 'women's' pockets. i know guys that wear these bc the New Standards don't come small enough for them

Tight = The Cure -- their slimmest jean with a medium rise, to go head to head with Dior Hommes. unlike the ones listed above these are NOT made with the tough selvage denim.

if you plan on wearing these in yourself keep in mind APC's are made of extra tough denim. they hold their color a lot longer than Nudies selvage. on another forum i read, an employee of APC posted that the denim they use is made exclusively for APC in Japan old Levi's looms that APC owns, and they are either sent to Macau or i can't remember the other place, to be made. another poster said that APC's use more of a 'denimiers' selvage while Nudies uses a true entry level selvage which explains why APC's take so much longer to wear in than Nudies. also, unrelated though, APC's have a very slight purplish tinge to them compared to other selvage jeans.

-----

so my jean collection looks like this:

APC English Cut
APC New Standards
Nudie Flare Glenn (not selvage, but still dry/unwashed)
Earnest Sewn Filson Selvage
Diesel Ravix -- i have 7 pairs of these that i've acquired over the years, lol. i LOVE the fit of these with the straight back yoke, too bad they were discontinued a year ago.

i sold off my Sevens and Paper Denims a while ago once i had gotten into breaking in my own pairs and had gotten sick of seeing them everywhere.

is it me or am i the only one that thinks True Religions for guys look really silly. i think they make girls look really sexy but on guys they look plain weird.

tangerine -- prevention is key lol. i hang mine upside down after i wear them and let a fan blow up them to air them out.

. . . and when prevention doesn't work i take baking soda and spread it all over them wrap em up, put em in a plastic bag, and put em in the freezer over night. if that doesn't work i have an antibacterial odor eliminator spray that works really well (doesn't cover up the smell like febreze, yuck!)
