Metrosexuals

First disco, now style........what's next, are the heteros gonna steal gay sex from us next and make a handbook about it?

OOPS - they stole the sex some time ago, it's called "down low" And there IS a book about it. I heard that from Ricki Lake show (don't be a hater, I  that show)

This thread is getting into a silly we-were-doing-it-first fest. Well get this - my **** has been an **** for my whole life, that doesn't make it any better at being an ****. Straight men are perfectly entitled to do what they want to do - it's a free country.

For the record, the ancient Greeks were having homosexual sex long before the word 'gay' was ever used.

Right until you want to buy one...

The invisible clause at the end of my post read, 'That's the first defintion listed in the 2003 copy of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary if your online name happens to be strawberry daiquiri'.

And the other one was, 'Double skinchies with no returns, so nerghhhh!'

And which dictionary can translate that?

On-topic: This is one long topic.

Here's my stance on Metrosexuality.....

As a gay man it pisses me off that hetero guys have taken something we've been doing for years and making it a trend......it's like, Oh my god! You've discovered the concept of fashion and use multiple hair products, big deal! Everyone should be well groomed. But, metrosexuals, the extreme ones like David Bekham, take it to the point where it's just obnoxious.

I just never understood why it was "faggy" to be well dressed, and cultured and take care of yourself.....but what really gets to me is that now guys who used to throw around the word *** like it's the ultimate insult for a male, are now embracing metrosexual practices.

First disco, now style........what's next, are the heteros gonna steal gay sex from us next and make a handbook about it?

last time i checked gay men didn't have a copy write on any thing.

people should be free to act as they pleas, it's not an issue of sexual orrientation

and i certinly don't think being gay makes you fashionable.

Of course gays don't have a copyright, but I think it's a bit obnoxious that all of a sudden metrosexuals are treating these practices as though it's this new thing they discovered when it's been a part of gay culture for a long time.

Also I just think it's annoying that now it's a trend for straight guys to be well dressed and what not.......

In saying so you treat it like you invented it - you don't mention that it has been a part of straight culture for even longer. That part of straight culture went out of 'fashion' for a long time and now it's coming back...

No, of course gays didn't invent it either, I don't think that anyway. It's just like, you meet these metros now how treat it like it's the coolest thing, that's what annoys me. It's like, all of a sudden it's trendy and acceptable.....how's that fair to the guys who've been doing it since way before the word Metrosexual came into fashion and who dealt with being considered less then masculine for it?

Re-reading my previous posts, it does sound as though I think gay guys invented the concept of metrosexuality when that's not how I feel at all. It sucks when something you've been doing for years suddenly becomes trendy and mainstream.

I understand what you are saying, and i agree it's not fair, but I think culturally people still have issues with men being fashionable, gay or straight, even as a trend

There has been these VAIN straight guys out there for a long time. Look at Pimps,
look at Dandy's(sp?), look at excentrics, look at actors, look at entertainers, look at
perfectionists, sports players ( Clyde Frazier of the knicks was a huge style icon in his day, Metro to the core). Its just that now it has a new label attached thats all.

Yep. That's pretty much it. And with new labels come heavy mainstream media coverage.

Oh yeah, I defintly think there are people who still think it's immasculine (is that a word?) to care that much about style, but I think now that's it's kinda mainstream, more and more people pretend to be cool with it rather then just bash it like they used to.

Ok, I started this topic and Ive been saying the same thing all along. Im straight but i take the gay guys side on this one. It seems within the last couple of years straight guys almost think its cool to act gay ( no offense to any guys reading this post ( gay, or straight ) because we obviously share the same interest) BUT for instance my problem lies with my next door neighboors who would tease me durring middle school for making my own clothes and bringing my moms Vogue magazine to school. They taunted me for years because I was the symbol of a gay guy. I remember when dirty jeans came out a few years ago and I wore them to school and people either thought I was white trash or gay. Now dirty jeans are everywhere! I can go to ghetto malls in my city and dirty jeans are everywhere.
C'mon cant you remember when guys started carring shoulder bags! At first it was only gay guys (well including myself) Because no straight guy would be caught dead wearing a purse regardless of how functional they are!!   My point was, and still is, that I was harrassed for years for being myself and just recently my whole generation has adopted my way of living and dressing without any thought to the pain they have brought many people thru the years. :( :(

Another way you can tell something strange is going on is all of a sudden if you ask most girls they tell you about their "GAY" guy friend. Its like its cool to have a "TOKEN" gay friend all of a sudden. Were not an accessory you can just drop when the trend wears off  Who tha @$$% do they think they are! People should seriosly drop this fake bull sh*t.

Exactly, it's only a new term that excited people for a bit.
I think they've forgotten about it now, the public attention span isn't that impressive.
