Mia Wasikowska

I really love who she is choosing to work with. She's following the Tilda Swinton and early Nicole Kidman career path.

Olivier Assayas will take to the hills of Germany and Switzerland this summer with Mia Wasikowska packing her suitcases to play alongside Juliette Binoche in Sils Maria, an English-language film that will be supported by Arte France Cinema. Binoche is set to play a famous actress named Maria Enders (Binoche has three decades worth of experiences to pull from here) while Wasikowska plays an assistant.

Gist: Sils Maria is a hill and flower-friendly portion of the Engadin region of Switzerland where 19th & 20th century intellectuals, artists and philosophers stayed — most notably Friedrich Nietzsche. According to what I could gather from Arte France Cinéma’s Olivier Père’s description, the physical space of one room acts a lieu for this middle-aged actresses’ own reflection on ageism, insecurities and doubts brought about by a successful, yet controversial role she played two decades prior. I’m calling this one: method acting taken to the extreme.

I keep on fangirling over her career choices. Out of all the actresses in her generation, she's having the most interesting career by far.
TORONTO - Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and Evan Bird have joined the cast of David Cronenberg’s thriller Maps to the Stars ahead of a July shoot in Toronto and Los Angeles.

Newcomer Bird will play a troubled, drug-addicted child star, while Williams will play his manipulative mother, and Wasikowska his disfigured, schizophrenic, fame-obsessed sister.

So glad this is definitely happening. She said in an interview that no one wanted to finance it.

It's been six years since "Velvet Goldmine" and "Far From Heaven" helmer Todd Haynes last had a film in theaters -- the uneven, but intermittently transcendent Bob Dylan picture "I'm Not There." Haynes has been busy in the meantime, helming the awesome, Emmy-laden miniseries "Mildred Pierce," as well as an episode of "Enlightened," but we've missed him on the big screen, and so we're excited by Screen Daily's news that Haynes will direct a new film called "Carol."

The film will reunite Haynes with his "I'm Not There" star Cate Blanchett, who'll star alongside her follow Australian Mia Wasikowska. Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith about the relationship between an unhappy wife (Blanchett) and a twenty-something department store employee in 1950s New York, the project was previously to be directed by "Boy A" helmer John Crowley, but he's bowed out due to scheduling conflicts. There's no word on when it'll move forward, but we hope it'll be as soon as goddamn possible.

We're almost as excited by Screen's news that the busiest writer alive, Jack Thorne (one of our Screenwriters On The Rise picks this year), and director Tom Harper, who were behind the excellent, woefully under-seen "Scouting Book For Boys" a few years back, are getting back together, for a political thriller called "War Book." The film seems to be a "Fail Safe"-style drama set in "the political backrooms of London" in the aftermath of a nuclear attack on the city, and will shoot on July 15th. Harper is squeezing this in before he goes on to direct horror sequel "The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death," starring Jeremy Irvine and Phoebe Fox.

Meanwhile, cult filmmaker Monte Hellman is prepping a new film, again according to Screen. The "Two Lane Blacktop" helmer will direct "Love Or Die," a low budget romantic thriller compared to "Heaven Can Wait," about "a man and woman who fail to meet during their lifetime but are sent back to earth to fulfill their love." Portuguese producer Paulo Branco, behind that film, is also backing Mathieu Amalric's new directorial effort, "The Blue Room." And finally, the site also report that Juan Carlos Medina, who made some waves at TIFF last year with "Painless," will direct an adaptation of Peter Ackroyd's "Dan Leno And The Limehouse Golem," which has a script from "Kick-***" and "X-Men: First Class" writer Jane Goldman.

It doesn't say that it is a firm go yet but with Todd Haynes now directing I imagine it will get financing relatively quickly.

:woot::woot::woot:

The Weinstein Company has completed a deal for U.S. distribution rights to Carol, a film that shoots in the fall, directed by Far From Heaven helmer Todd Haynes for HanWay Films.

Apparently her role in the film is tiny so she probably thought it wouldn't be worth it. It's a shame because I've started to expect her at Cannes every year.

Is it really? That's upsetting. She was one of the main reasons (along with the rest of the cast) that I wanted to see this film. I thought she'd have a pretty big part. Isn't she sort of the antagonist?

Sorry for the late reply. From the reviews I've read, her role is tiny but she's very good.

Kristen Stewart has been cast in Sils Maria in the assistant role that Mia had so I think Mia had to drop out to do Carol. I think she has more chance to shine in Carol and it's a Weinstein film so hopefully she'll finally get awards attention.

^I hope so too. Mia needs to do a role to really get her the critical attention she deserves.

I love the Yohji-style trousers on her.

I absolutely adore her hair and she's making me want to get a short fringe. Her outfit is cute too.

Here is a film version of her editorial in British Vogue last year that was shot by Bruce Weber.

I hope her schedule allows her to be in this. I don't know why Emma dropped out but I'm glad she did.
"Alice in Wonderland's" Mia Wasikowska is in talks with Legendary Pictures to star in Guillermo del Toro's gothic horror movie "Crimson Peak," TheWrap has learned.

Should Wasikowska's reps at WME be able to work out her schedule, the "Stoker" star plans to take over the role that Emma Stone had originally been attached to but was forced to depart last month due to a scheduling issue.

Wasikowska is being eyed to play a young author named Edith Cushing who discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Jessica Chastain will co-star as siblings from an aristocratic family, while del Toro's "Pacific Rim" star Charlie Hunnam also has a lead role in the movie.
