I'm finally seeing both shame and a dangerous method this week
Michael Fassbender arrives at the gala screening of the film "Shame" at the Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto on Sunday, Sept. 11 2011.

You think? This film seems too...controversial and dark for the Academy.
, then I don't see why not. I certainly haven't heard anyone at either Venice or here in Toronto wonder whether it will be too much for Academy voters. Perhaps the Baftas will warm to it more than the Oscars, that can often be the case, they're better at going left field. Of course, if they could translate the buzz from Shame towards A Dangerous Method that might be a plan as well. It's a wide open year awards wise at the moment, I don't think we're going to see someone pull ahead so early as Colin Firth did but there's a lot of competition this year.
(For the record I don't lurk in hotel lobby's hugging people, it's just a rather wonderful perk of doing what I do!)Does Shame have an NC-17 rating? I can't remember if I read that somewhere. Someone I know saw it at the TIFF yesterday. Said it was very good, especially Michael but that there is ALOT of nudity in it and that it's very dark.
