i worked on his birthday so i didn't really have time to 'celebrate'. my co-workers are very sweet, they made it a very Michael Jackson filled day to kept my spirits up. one of them i've known for a while, i always said he had a likeness to a rat in looks and personality. i say it with love! everyone including him agrees. i mentioned the song "Ben" to him a long time ago but he didn't know it. then when the movie Ratatouille came out, we were like "omg that's you!" my co-worker is small in stature, skinny, loves to eat but is picky, he is not a trash can or anything. he was invited to karaoke too but couldn't make it, i said that he should have come so i could serenade him with "Ben". so sometimes i'll just sing the song to him for my own amusement "
(his real name), most people would turn you away but I don't listen to a word they say...even though yous a rat...RAT!" lol
on Sunday before the restaurant opened my co-worker greets me the way he usually does, saying my name with contempt jokingly. this time i fired back with "BEN", he laughed and said he still hasn't gotten around to listening to that song. a few minutes later, i walked up to him with my phone showing a picture of MJ with some rats on his shoulders and said "look at you with Michael Jackson" lol my co-worker thought it was the cutest thing, Michael was an adorable child and the rats just made that photo even better.
i let him listen to the 1972 version of "Ben" on my phone and when i came back he was like "wow i can't believe he was so young when he sang that". i wanted to say well he was in the Jackson 5 but i didn't want to press it. sometimes i really wonder how little non MJ fans know about Michael. it seems a lot of them don't remember his entire legacy when his name is mentioned. it's like they don't know how to put 2+2 together, the kid singing in J5 is also the dude who did Thriller?...the answer is not 22

. i think my upbringing was just different, my co-worker is close to my age, an 80's baby and early 90's child too. the people around me were more MJ friendly, my grade school teachers still played his J5/BB MJ songs in class even in the most 'controversial' of times. my daddy is 'stuck in the 80's', loves "Billie Jean", respects Michael very much, and is jealous because he loved Brooke Shields too
i told him that it was MJ's bd, he was surprised by the ages of when he started singing and when he passed. he asked me more about the song, i was telling him about the movie and performance at the Oscars etc.
performing "Ben" at the Oscars
later on during service, i was by myself in the kitchen scooping rice(lol) and i see the tray with miso soups next to me move

i turned and there was my little co-worker, who i will now refer to as Ben(his real name is not that obviously). i said "don't sneak up like that i thought you were a ghost". Ben said "it's Michael Jackson"
![:D :D :D](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/biggrin2.gif)
lol i was like "oh Happy Birthday Michael"

more of my co-workers came back into the kitchen, Ben told them about the ghost thing and MJ's birthday. i said aloud with rice scooper as my mic "it's Michael Jackson's birthday, so in his honor i sing this song:
Happy Birthday Michael! god bless you this day, you gave me the gift of the King of Pop and i'm proud of you today"
later on, one of the hosts was apologizing to a server, he said "my bad". the server started pointing at him and singing "your BAD, your BAD yeah yeah yeahhh"(like "Bad"), i capped it off with "Shamone!"
anyways there were a lot of random references they made through out the night to MJ. i was early shift, so when i left i said bye to everyone and i said "bye Ben!", my other co-workers were like "why did you call him Ben?". Ben explains why and they all laugh because they were like "hey that fits" lol then one of my older co-workers follows me out saying "so then who is Bubbles?", and i responded "(name of co-worker who i affectionately call 'caveman')" lol "and (name of tall and lanky co-worker who sang "Bad") is Louie the Llama!"
