Michelle Obama

Dang... Michelle looks fantastic in the black gown and Tom Binns necklace (if I am not mistaken?)! She really pulls of gowns like this. Although weirdly enough it sort of reminds me of the black gown which Princess Diana wore to the white house state dinner in the 90's. Anyone else see the similarities?

I think mrs o looks fab
I also see the parallelism between the two black gowns, good eye! :flower:

I saw her when she was going to the dinner in the black Ralph Lauren dress. She was in the car with POTUS and it was really quick but it made my night  I was so so lucky because I also saw her coming back from Oxford she had a big smile and was waving and I just died. Same for Obama who I saw coming out of downing street. I am so not the kind of person who wait around and stalk but those 2... They are amazing

On a more fashion note the only outfit I disliked was the one she had on when she met the Duc & Duchess.. I really liked the dress but hated the pink bolero !

Some id from Mrs-o
She was in Alexander McQueen during the Oxford event

Thanks, YoninahAliza, for posting the picture of Diana. To me, it explains why that dress on her is iconic and why the one on Michelle Obama will never be. I generally like Michelle's style and the Deauville outfit is fantastic, but given the kind of body she has (strange, she must be about the same height as Diana was), she has to be careful how she dresses to remain feminine looking. A little like Charlene Wittstock I imagine. But its was function and age appropriate. The white gown was just too strange, too bridal-gown like.

I totally agree with you Jeanne, while I love Mrs. O and her style, the dress while beautiful will never be iconic. Princess Di certainly made that style of the LBD iconic but I also think its in part of that era which she was living in and her charm and personality too. Princess Di pulled of such a gown fabulously. Whereas people will always remember the dress Michelle wore to inaugural ball- now that's iconic! So they may be different, wonderful ladies, but it must be said they both have some outfits which people will alway remember.

Good eye, YoninahAliza!

I think the reason the Victor Edelstein worked on Diana is because she was more "delicate" and not quite as worked out as she became in her later years. Also, the gown is more detailed in the ruching, skirt and bow detail. And the style--mermaid--really flattered Diana's body. Michelle's is like a very lazy copycat and the cutting of the gown doesn't flatter her asserts. The necklace also competes with the dress. (If I'm not mistaken Diana's was also a couture piece, whereas Michelle's looks more pret-a-porter.)

Just FYI, her latest outfit isn't for Deauville as she decided not to go to the summit. She headed back for America.

ITA with you guys. I don't think the dresses she wore for the dinners were the best choice given her body type and size. That being said, she managed to work them quite well even if those are probably the worst dresses she has ever worn for those kind of parties  But hey, you can't win everyday ;)

Looove love love the Reed Krakoff dress, and what a great and unexpected choice of designer!!!

Boring is anything but FLOTUS. Plus she already owns a bag by him. I was not very impressed by her collaboration with her "stylist" lately (Meredith Kopp) during the Euro Tour (I loved the previous G8 outfits better) but this look is pure perfection. She is one of the 1st lady with the biggest range in term of designers.

Here is the "original" dress I think. Credit net at porter. The modification works for her.
