Minimizing Pores, questions and advice!

i think biore strips take off excess skin cells at the surface of your skin and extra hair.

thats why it might hurt for some people.

has anyone gotten retin a from their dermatologist? the only problem with retin a is that it thins the skin.

Garnier PureA works for me! it contains salcylic acid to treat pimples, minimise pores and fade discolourations. You see results quite soon!

I just bought that the other on an impulse. I used it twice or so and it smells really good but I didn't see any big results and I'm afraid to use it more incase it makes me break out or something (since everything makes me break out). How long have you been using it? Did you see any immediate results?

Ew my pores are big :/

Since its summer and its extremely hot I tend to sweat a lot more and the pores on my nose has gotten bigger yuck! its so unattractive. and I have lil zits on my cheeks and they look like bumps like I have some rash on my face:yuk: Do any of you girls have advice as to what mask to use to help tighten these pores or any other stuff that can help it?

EDIT: Oh and one more thing! what would be the best oil control powder or lotion? My face can get pretty oily when I work and I hate having my face all shiny and ewy in front of customers its embarrasing.

So...have anyone tried Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher from Estee Lauder?

Do pores get larger as you age? or am I seeing something that isn't happening???

I have a sample which I've been using sporadically. It's ok, nothing brilliant. It sorta seems like they're minimised a little, but I dunno.

^Thanks :flower: I think you're supposed to use for a couple of weeks...I'm going to get a sample as soon as I come back to the city

I think a lot of people probably use more moisturizer than is necessary. I used to think I needed to cover my entire face with a hefty layer in order to fully reap the benefits---but I now think this is not the case. I've been using much less moisturizer recently---enough to keep my skin from feeling dry and tight during the day and during the night, but never so much that I can feel it. My pores definitely seem smaller and less clogged when I get home from work. I would recommend easing up on the moisturizer---maybe just a little at a time, if you need to---for almost instantly less obvious pores. No further purchase necessary!

My friend said that making the pores around on and around my nose go away would be to wash it with hot water to make the pores open up, wash my face, and then run an ice cube around my face to close the pores up again. Will that work?

^ Washing with hot water will open your pores, yes. It has just the exact same effect as a "steaming bath" (with a towel over your head etc. I hope you know what I mean :D). And in the long run it's the worst thing you can do to your skin!
I talked to my dermatologist and cosmetician about it and they both told me the same: always avoid hot water! A face steaming every two months (so that all the dirt gets out of your pores) is okay but besides that, hot water will only cause damage in the future.

The thing is, that your pores get opened more and more with every time you wash your face with hot water. Of course, if you use an ice cube afterwards they will shrink again but it's defenitely not a way to minimize them or anything. In the long run, your pores will get bigger and even more visible. That's also the reason why you should avoid too long and too hot baths or showers.

^ Thanks, Yanah. :flower: That's really great. Would just a warm steam be everything I need to do once a month to help my pores get smaller? Or is there something I can do in the mean time, everyday, that will help me? My friend said an exfoliant would reduce the size of my pores.

A chemical (non-physical) exfoliant works wonders. Steaming does not - just avoid it altogether. Nothing you do only once a month will ever help, unless it's a chemical peel. The thing with physical exfoliants (anything with grains/beads) is that they will stimulate the oil-producing glands, making your skin more oily, making it prone to blackheads and thereby making your pores bigger.

I think glycolic acid is amazing! I use Glycolic Foaming Cleanser from Mario Badescu, and I love it. Alpha H has some great stuff too, esp if you're more into masques. I think glycolic acid shouldn't be used on erupted skin, so I don't know how it works on severe acne. It might help people with moderate acne.

Basically anything with AHAs or BHas in it will gently exfoliate your skin and make your pores look cleaner (which usually reduces them quite a bit).

Be careful with steaming, it can cause broken cappilaries on the face is done too often (so can water that is too hot or too cold)!

The Oil Cleansing Method fully removes all dirt and build-up from pores, which definitely makes them look smaller. You might look into that.

It doesn't fully remove anything (nothing really does), but I honestly think that it somehow makes the oil glands...sort of relax? I haven't had an oily t-zone since I started using cleansing oils :o I can't explain why.

But it makes so much sense cleansing with oil - because oil isn't water soluble, and you can't remove excess oil in the skin with anything water-soluble.

^ I can imagine that and I totally believe that you're right about this but... my skin is just so damn oily that I'm always way too scared to use something with oil in it :ninja::unsure:
I mean, of course it's pretty logical that if you're skin is prone to be oily, it will produce just more oil if you dry it out etc. And if you treat it with oil, it will produce less, as there is already enough. But still - I have the feeling that I'll get a massive breakout then...
Anyone with oily skin has experience with this?

I have oily skin. It didn't do anything bad to my skin. I need to get around to seeing where I can find other oils though. Even though I use very little at a time, I don't like using olive oil that I rather use for food.
