Miss Universe Canada Accepts Transsexual Contestant

You can't be an XX male since 2 Xs make you female and XY makes you male. Maybe you are talking about the people who are XXX, X, or XXY? Either way with those genetic abnormalities you are still consider male or female.

I guess people complain so much about gender that a genetic testing is the only way to shut them up. Remember that runner who won and people would't let it go until there was some testing done?

I just wonder is she lied about it and they found out or if they knew all along and when there was too much controversy they just drop her lie a hot potato.

XX males exist. They arise by a translocation of the SRY gene located on the Y chromosome to the X chromosome. However, they are sterile of course and present abnormalities.

i have a couple of comments:

1 - yay canada! they recognize her as legally female and, thus, can't discriminate against her submission.

2 - squizree: the fundamental issue is your understanding of the term "gender". you are making it synonymous with "sex", but they are different. "sex" refers to the literal biological makings of a person. ie: this contestant was born a male and is, thus, of the male sex naturally. whereas "gender" refers to the social or cultural categories relating to the "sex" of a person. kinda like saying: sex = male/female, and gender = masculine/feminine. SO - this contestants "gender" isn't something that is determined simply by the fact that she was born with a penis. your decision to still attribute "he" to her is a reflection of your misunderstanding of the term "gender", i believe. check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_and_gender_distinction

3 - i still, actually, fundamentally think that she shouldn't be able to compete. but not because she's transsexual, but because her body has been surgically altered. ideally, imo, a "Miss Universe" pageant should be represented by contestants who haven't had any of the surgeries. BUT then where do you draw the line? what about braces for the teeth? is that ok? and if so, then why wouldn't breast implants be? aaah, i guess i don't know.
