Fashion is meant to be at times provoking, but who do you think is the most controversial house/designer today?

In an overall sense one of the first designers that comes to mind is Marc Jacobs...every move he makes seems to spark controversy.

Kind of hard to say, I don't know that there is anyone working today who is consistently controversial in the true sense of the word. Maybe it's because we've seen it all?

Marc Jacobs comes to mind, as does Galliano but those are more in terms of fan reaction than actually doing something truly controversial (though John had that homeless couture collection back in 2000 which really was controversial)

True controversy in design though is really rare. McQueen used to hold the title, but he's softened his edge in the last 6 or 7 years.

I'd say Vivienne Westwood because of her political ad campaigns. She also speaks out on politics and modern culture in a lot of her interviews. In a pretty current issue of ID magazine she called Tony Blair a monster, heh. I think Tom Ford and JPG stirred the coals in their own time, not so much anymore.

I dont know how Marc Jacobs would be considered controversial ? Well besides the whole rent boy/boyfriend thing.

Well, in LJ fashion communities Henry Holland of House of Holland always seems to spark controversy and lots of comments.

definately Marc

Hussein Chalayan does some quite controversial things with his presentations and clothes.

I'd say Marc Jacobs, but he's really not controversial in the way that you hear about in fashion history. It's more like 'He's ADD and copies too much' versus 'He's a genius and always has his finger on the pulse'.

I think people hate Karl more for his personality than his designs...I love both!

So do I, but I think I'm Karl's #1 fan.

...or #2, Borjacapella might be even crazier about Karl than I am!

He is...I can attest to that.
I think Frida Giannini is creating some controversy for her mediocre work against a luxury house. Also, maybe Riccardo Tisci a bit ago as he was not so much a favorite with editors. ^_^

MARC JACOBS!?!?! What!?

Please, it's Galliano, McQueen, Gaultier and Westwood...

I don't think any of them are really controversial
It's only those designers that make clothes that are difficult to wear in real life

IMO, hands down - Vivienne Westwood, for decades. And I hope for decades to come!

I've read about her myself
but she is asking for a designer of today
I don't know if any of them have as much an impact as they did in the past
