I just watched Cannibal Holocaust because of this thread...That is DEFINITELY the most disturbing movie I've ever watched. D: At first I didn't think it'd be that disturbing, but I was very very wrong. Good thing I watched it during the day

Agree it is not a very disturbing one but rather tense, at some point I thought I would be sick and the worst thing is that I was at the end of the row and could not even get out... even though he is cutting his hand, he does it for saving his life which is kind of possitive... usually films that disturb me have negative context... I was e.g. disturbed by Black Swan even though I loved it...

of course Pasolini's film is very disturbing too and I guess that was the reason he got killed which in itself is very disturbing...

Oy. 120 Days of Sodom (also called Salo) is definitely disturbing and cringe-inducing. Also Slaughtered Vomit Dolls and some German movie who's name escapes me, but it was a very graphic movie about highly sadistic cannibals. Really uncomfortable to watch.

Books: Justine and 120 Days of Sodom both by Marquis de Sade.

TV shows... The League of Gentlemen. It's comedy, but really twisted, dark and bizarre. It's brilliant, but also very, very sick.

I avoid disturbing media because I know I can't handle it.

But the most disturbing thing I watched was Jonestown Paradise Lost (doco) for one of my school subjects. While it left the whole class (teacher included) and later the rest of the year level crying from ,shock mainly, it was really disturbing. It's based on the real life cult and its kind of broke down the elements that make a cult start and how easily it can pick up steam in a community etc. Eventually there was a mass suicide at the end children included. What was really disturbing was that well educated people also got sucked in by a charismatic leader. It just made me think that this type of thing can really happen to anyone.

My literature teacher wanted to send me to a therapist after he found out I had read all of de Sade's books. He said he didn't get past the first 50 pages of Justine because he was grossed out so much. I must admit de Sade's work is quite disturbing but so fascinating at the same time!

For arguments sake you could have said that de Sade is only 1/10 as disturbing as what goes on in Stileproject Gore section, real people burning, cutting, stoning, torturing and beating other real people to death. That page definitely takes the cake over any book or movie.

Other than that, I recently saw a horrible internet video where some sadistic Asian beauty stepped on a living kitten with a stiletto shoe and pushed the heel into it's eye. It haunted me for months, I wish I had never seen that.

^I heard about that video! Now that's something I could never watch! Things like that are horrible, especially because they're real. I listened to the 911 call of Brittany Murphy's mom when she found Brittany dead in the bathroom, that was the one thing that has haunted me most.

Never heard of Stileproject Gore, but now I'm curious!

Well, Stileproject is a nasty place, full with pop-ups, trojans and truly gross videos. And tons of bad p*rn on top. It's think it's the embodiment of Rule #34
Go there and you might end up being disappointed in humanity for a while at least.

Requiem For A Dream, i just watched it a couple of days ago. it was very hard to watch and yet i was glued to the screen.. the last 15 minutes just tore me apart especially Ellen Burstyn's and Jennifer Connelly's scene. asides from being extremely raw the most disturbing part was that it was all so brutally realistic, and happens in real life. definitely Aronofsky's masterpiece, trumps Black Swan anytime.

for gory slasher films (petty stuff compared to most recommended ones here but still..) i also loved/hated the Saw series and Hostel i marathoned Saw 1-4 with a friend and it was such a tremendous ordeal it felt like getting out of a haunted coal mine when we finished the 4 movies. i haven't been able to watch the rest of it though. and Hostel, i didn't even get to finish the entire movie, i couldn't handle it

for books i'm posting this very controversial section from Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted, the short story entitled Guts. it's sickening, i'm not even reading it again over 30 people fainted over this part during the live readings and one teacher even got suspended for letting his class read the piece
