Musicians must put in, or behave like politicians

But I wouldn't put it past a musician like him to use those events as a huge publicity campaign. And why wouldn't he? He would reach a greater audience and his visibility would increase. That's every celebrities dream. Besides, what musician hasn't pulled a stunt right before their album was released? Becoming a political activist is not anymore ridiculous than exposing your nipple at the Super Bowl.

First of all, increasing foreign aid donations does not, I repeat, does not solve the issue in a country like Africa who is like 90 billion dollars in debt (correct me if i'm wrong). More foreign aid under those conditions only means more debt. What Bono needs to do is lobby for debt relief instead of trying to get us to increase foreign aid donations. And then there's that problem of FA dependency in a country like Africa, which is not exactly a good thing. Plus, foreign aid contributions only mean more governmental controls, conditions and restrictions of the donor country to the reciever.

I disagree with everything you have said.

One, I can't believe you have compared politics and lobbying for good causes to nudity at a worldwide televised public event. That's kind of BS, if you ask me. And only recently has Bono become fully, publically, politically active. Saying that this is all a publicity stunt for exposure and increased record sales is wrong. Did the band U2 use this to sell War? Unforgettable Fire? Their huge commercially successful album Joshua Tree? Achtung Baby? The answer's no. And at the same time for the past twenty years he has been steadfastly involved in African issues. The reason he is being heard now is because of his campaigns and organizations that are finally evolving. And whether you like it or not, people are listening to Bono. Presidents and prime minsters are listening to Bono. COUNTRIES are listening to the man.

And two, as far as your Canada concern, Canada's leaders were not held at gun-point to accept Bono's requests of increased foreign aid. And it sounds like you have not been listening, because Bono has repeated over and over again how important erasing debt for these countries is. And yes, this would help to solve the issue in Africa. Right now so many countries are unable to expand economically due to lessened resources of all sorts due to debt. But if that debt is relieved, the possibilities for these poor countries can be plentiful.
