Dilemma...

Chanel Black Satin

or OPI Black Onyx?

Both of them look the same... Chanel is more expensive than OPI, obviously... But I'm a sucker for packaging. The Black Onyx reviews on MUA have complained about the "wet, runny texture." Then again, I am on a spending ban. I really should be getting OPI... :ninja: Opinions anybody?

Chanel, hands down. I have had the best luck with Chanel polishes. Yes, they're more expensive, but Chanel has better pigmentation and wears better. In my experience, OPI polishes start chipping after a few days (a week if I'm very lucky); Chanel, on the other hand, lasts at least twice as long. I like OPI for their wide range of colors; but if a color is available through Chanel I will happily pay the extra cash because I know I am getting a quality product that lasts.

I was not so lucky :( I have half a bottle of Blue Satin I gave up wearing because after a couple of days it starts chipping. This also happens with other polishes like Orly and Barry M. I'm starting to think it really depends on the base coat/polish combination because with my base coat all OPI polishes last very long.
Which one do you use?

I use Chanel's Reflet De Laque High Gloss Top Coat and a base coat by Jessica. They're the best I've found. Not sure why OPI doesn't work well for me

Thanks for tips! I am actually tempted to get the Chanel one just because there isn't a local OPI store here so I always have to order online... I hate the long wait. :(

Chanel & OPI both seem to work really well for me, but sometimes it really does depend on the shade. Chanel Django chips like crazy for me, but the rest of their polishes stay fresh for at least a week!

how many coats of essie sheer polishes do you guys do? I've bought sugardaddy and it's invisible after two coats :(

Hipkitten I'll have to try those! thanks!
Michyed In that cas I'd choose the Chanel too ;) I'm addicted to nail polish and I couldn't wait too

source of all pics is lcnforyou.com

I do have top coat (it's actually a nail hardener called Super Nail Harderner and I have another one with calcium as well), but I rarely use it. I'll go for Wet Look asap, I love glossy look.^_^ So I use oil after nail polish.
LCN files are my favourite (you have files for different types of nails), I can easily shape my nails now (I had huge problems with that and I was using nail scissors:ninja:). Like I said, oil is fantastic, I also like cuticle softener pen (and Nail Cuticle Softener-pretty much the same thing) it's for gently pushing your cuticles back.
I also have cuticle oil (mine is a bit dry because of that cold weather we have), but mainly because of delicious smell (I have vanilla-cinammon, but they also have chocolate, orange, caffee latte) and I use it before I go to bed. And of course nail polishes, they have so many shades and gorgeous colour. They're easy to apply and they last forever!:woot:
Those 3 colours above are (from left to right): 213 Cosmopolitan Me, D4 Funky Violet and 256 Victorian Violet.:flower:

Oh, and I'd recommend Nail Power for anyone who has soft, fragile nails. There are few things you should know about it's use, just tell me if anyone is interested. My bf's sisters had the baddest nails I have ever seen and after using Nail Power she has strong, healthy nails. She said I saved her life.

No, I meant if you use the oil before or after the topcoat, but I guess after makes the most sence, right? ^_^
Do you mean that the oil makes the polish even shinier?

Oh and what files have you tried & have you tried these?

Have you tried Haken nail oils and can compare those to the LCN ones?
Don't know which one to get

And I will definately need to try out these products...

Best thing is that I can get all LCN stuff at wholesale price

Dilemma...

Chanel Black Satin

or OPI Black Onyx?

scrangie.com:

Chanel Black Satin. If you're thinking of getting this, don't. Get Zoya Raven instead! It's identical and costs $6. Zoya's formula is better, too!

Comparison: Chanel Black Satin and Zoya Raven

I mentioned in my post comparing blacks that Zoya Raven was the same color as Chanel Black Satin. Here's a comparison image:

Thumb to pinkie: (left) Raven (right) Black Satin, Raven, Raven, Black Satin, Black Satin.

Now, if I didn't say that they were different polishes, would you have been able to tell the difference? I wouldn't!

I ended up buying Black Satin a while back because someone had convinced me that it was the be-all end-all black polish of the gods. Sure, it's nice, but Zoya Raven is nicer.

I'm sure you all know this by now, but I'm not a fan of Chanel. I think their customer service is some of the worst I've ever experienced, and I don't think their polish is anything special. It's certainly not worth the price tag- it chips quicker than any polish I own (although, I hear buying Chanel's base coat will prevent this), the brushes are sometimes messed up and they don't apply as smoothly as a $20 polish should. I will buy the polish if the color is really special (Kaleidoscope!) but, still. I'd rather spend my money on Lippmann or Rescue Beauty Lounge.

Zoya, on the other hand, has rarely disappointed me. The formula of the polish is always smooth and manageable (with the exception of two colors- Bekka and Juicy), the price point is just right ($6, not $20!), and they really have a lot of great colors. I have only had to contact customer service once, so I can't really comment on the quality of customer service, but I have never had a problem with any of my orders- just a couple backordered polishes.

So, personally, when faced with the choice of two identical black shimmer polishes, of course I'm going to choose the less expensive one!

^Thanks for that! Sadly they don't sell Zoya here. :( International shipping would cost me too much and take too long... Love the Scrangie swatch of the Black Satin though

After the topcoat or nailpolish, yes.:flower: It is shinnier, but it doesn't last very long, only untill is wet.:D
I'm sorry, I have never heard of Haken and I can't help you here.:(

I have these files (the first one is block buffer or whatever it's called). I'm not sure about the numbers though.

my pic
I want that banana shaped file.:D

Something similar to Chanel's Miami Peach

I'm looking for a color that is similar to Chanel's Miami Peach. I'm not a big fan of Chanel polishes. They chip easy on me. That's why I'm looking for an alternative. Big fan of Opi and Essie.

TIA!

Love OPI's Mad Hatter by the way!!
