Never Let Me Go is a 2010 British dystopian drama filmthe same name written by Kazuo Ishiguro. The movie was directed by Mark Romanek from a screenplay written by Alex Garland. It stars Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield. Never Let Me Go centers on Kathy, Ruth and Tommy, played respectively by Mulligan, Knightley and Garfield, who become entangled in a love triangle and are scientific specimens, created in a laboratory and raised in order to provide their organs to severely ill patients. Principal photography began in April 2009, lasting a few weeks, and filmed at various locations, including Andrew Melville Hall. Made on a $15 million budget, Never Let Me Go was produced by DNA Films and Film4.
Prior to the book's publication, Garland had approached the movie's producers, Andrew Macdonald and Andrew Reich, about a possible movie, and wrote the film a ninety-six page script. While initially having trouble finding an actress to play Kathy, Mulligan was cast in the role after Peter Rice, who is the head of the company financing the film, recommended her while watching her performance in An Education. A fan of the book, Mulligan ecstatically accepted the role, having hoped to play that specific character if a film adaptation were to ever be made of the book, years before. The movie's message and themes were the factors that attracted Garfield to become a part of the film.
based on the 2005 novel of Never Let Me Go premiered at the 37th annual Telluride Film Festival2010 Toronto International Film Festival as well as opening the 54th London Film Festival. It was distributed theatrically by Fox Searchlight Pictures in the United States on 15 September 2010, where it was given a limited release. Other release dates for the movie include a 14 January 2011, date for the United Kingdom. In the US, playing at four theatres, Never Let Me GoNever Let Me Go was met with generally positive reviews from film critics, with most reviewers praising the cast's overall performances.

Beautiful movie! I love the pace, the hunting atmosphere, the performances, the use of plot twist... everything about it was perfect for me (I haven´t read the book though).

I haven't read the book either, but I just ordered it from amazon :D I loved the movie too..but it's so sad

one thing that was so disturbing for me was that they´re so "brain washed" that it never occurred to them to leave, to face the unknown. that was the saddest part imo :(

i've seen the movie and after that i read the book , there are some differences in the plot between both , so you don't need to read the book to understand the plot, because the book doesn't tell much more of the relevant matters of the story, just tell them in a different way.

I don't know if it is because i saw the movie first , that i find it more intense than the book ,the relatioship betwen the characters in the movie regarding how it is told in the book.

In my opinion the book focouses and get lost on irrelevant details that don't develop the main plot of the story, i wish the author would have explain better the mentality of the characters, their way of asuming their condition, how they faced life and relationship with the people in the outer world , that sort of things.

About the movie, i liked very much, i felt affected for several days after watching it , that's more than i can say about 99% of the movies i see nowadays. The soundtrack really beautiful, and sad . the actors made a great job and made their characters credibles at all moment, even the secundary ones.

To summarize, in my opinion a great movie , as beautiful as sad , but worth watching it no doubt about it.

: Keira talk about that in one of these vids, I just can't remember which one..sorry:doh:
But when they were at that school they were told scary stories about the outside world so they wouldn't try to run away...

I've seen the movie and read the book;
Since i read the book first i was discovering everything as it went by (it never ocured to me that Kathy had feelings for Tommy other than friends) since her caracter doesn't really tell what she feels is up to the ones reading it to try to understand what goes in her mind. She keeps on describing everything that happens from the outside but never what is she thinking or feeling.

The book really touched me, even thought it's lack of a climax is notable it is a story that still keeps you hung up on it.

And the cast did and excelent job specially Carey and the kids, how they all supply between each other. It was really well done.

And except for some little difference the movie represent almost the whole book which is great too. Even though if you read the book first, some elements take more importance as you watch the movie than others who haven't read it. (it happen to me while i was watching the movie with a friend, like the tape Kathy listens to.)

the scene where Tommy (Andrew Garfield) is one of the most touching scenes of the movie, the first time i saw it during the trailer it made me shiver.

I just watched the film and I really loved it!! all actors were great, but I especially loved Carey's and Andrew's performances!

I read the book too and one thing that surprised me a bit was how early Kathy had feelings for Tommy in the movie, she really suffered when Ruth and Tommy got together, but I didn't get that impression at all in the book. I thought that maybe she already loved Tommy when they were children, but she didn't realise it back then. She didn't seem heartbroken to me at all in the book...

Even though I missed some of the details given in the book that were omitted or changed I really enjoyed the film! for some reason whenever I watch a dystopian movie after reading the book first I find the circumstances more depressing on screen, even though I already knew about them from the book...
