Nicole a country girl at heart

SHE may be one of the world's most in-demand models but Nicole Trunfio hasn't forgotten her roots.
The 20-year-old was back in her home town of Merredin at the weekend to visit her family.
Used to gracing the world's catwalks and regularly appearing on the cover of magazines such as Vogue, Nicole was just at home playing with her young cousins at her grandparents' house and watching her aunties win their basketball final.
The former St Mary's School student was back in WA to celebrate turning 20 – she had an 80s party at her parent's Bunbury home – and took time out to drive up to Merredin to catch up with her relies.
Now a resident of New York, Nicole tries to get home every Christmas and says she enjoys the opportunity to take time out and relax.
And while some may call her a super model, to her and her family, she's still just Nicole.
"I'm just comfortable being me," said Nicole.
"There are two separate worlds: there's work and then there's home.
"When I'm at home I'm like everyone else, I put on my comfy clothes and do normal things.'
Nicole was discovered a few years ago in a model search competition and from there her career has taken off.
She's been living and working in New York for two years now and while she's still got plenty of modelling years ahead of her, she's also got lots of ideas on other things she would like to achieve.
"To come from Merredin and get the opportunity to go so far, you really have to take the opportunity to get everything out of it you can," she said.
"The more you achieve, the more you can inspire other people to achieve too."
As a young girl Nicole remembers going to see a show at the Cummins Theatre and wishing she could become an actress.
She dismissed the idea after doubting a girl from Merredin would ever be able to get to Hollywood.
Little did she know she would grow up to frequent that very town and mix with some of its most famous faces.
"It's good to be able to show the young kids of Merredin that anything can happen," she said.
"A lot of people from here have gone on to achieve their goals.
"I think it's the good family values and the good grounding you get here. It's tough and it teaches you how to survive."
After her stay in WA Nicole was heading to Sydney to do shoots for Vogue and Follow magazines before returning to New York.
