Numéro #228 February 2022 : Emily Miller by Jean-Baptiste Mondino

Numéro's covers used to be electric! I vividly remember salivating over a one with Anja Rubik by Camilla Akrans from 2007 which still makes me weak the knees to this day. Those Liya Kebede covers to close out 2021 felt like a slight return to form but this is underwhelming beyond belief.

Oh yeah, I remember very well the day I bought this issue with Anja by Camilla, I wasn't even that fond of Anja back then and that cover really caught my attention.
A decade and a half later we've got this: nothing terribly awful of course but I'm having a hard time getting the appeal of another cover with that sad palette of colors (if I risk myself at calling those colors) shot by Mondino. Nothing against Jean-Baptiste's work but I've seen this a trillion times it seems. And the sunglasses, really?

There's at least one more cover, a close-up in the same style as this one. Nothing groundbreaking but already more appealing, to me at least. What I've seen from the contents so far looks alright, again nothing truly eye-catching but due to the low standards of the day, I won't be able to complain too much and I'll be waiting for the whole issue before calling it good or bad.

Beautiful second cover. At least he tried to find model's face best angle this time
