Olivia Palermo

Do people just hire PR like that? I mean, she doesn't have a product or service so is it really acceptable to go to a PR agency and say make me into a socialite?

Well, Olivia thinks it's acceptable. It didn't really work out for her, though, did it? :D

Her outfits in that blog don't look especially fabulous, especially that bizarre black and white dress that makes her look like a chess board.

Looking at her older style, I think she had to have hired a stylist to have shown such improvement.

she is quite plain when she poses for pictures...

is she still dating the Golden Jew??? (funny name, though)
and what is she studying?

about all the buzz around her wealth, social status, insecure behaviour, etc... and her comparaison with other it-girls...
do u think that someone who is already an insider of the world she is portraying (UESiders) would love to have so much press around, would like to be involved in a mtv show?? my answer is no! if you are in you aren't going to be kick out of it unless a big big scandal (that can be hidden) and with so much publicity she is taking risks... of taking part in a scandal...
my opinion is that she wants to be known (famous) but not in the paris hilton's way, in a better way... and mtv is probably her lastest tool to try it.

this is just perfection for me..

^i agree, she's gorgeous and has natural beauty to begin with. But, honestly if you look at older pictures she's average looking in my opinion...its mostly, hair, m/u and styling changes. Before I wouldn't have paid attention to her if i passed her on the street but now I would definitely look twice

I think it's that seranab - she was particularly aggressive about being a 'social' (and she didn't coin the phrase by the way). To her credit, tinsley (and others) stirred up some stuff way back when to discredit her. But I think she comes off as a bit 'fake', or more fake than the others. Perhaps she's just not so good at networking. Because no doubt Genevieve and her had similar starting points (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and Genevieve comes off a lot more legit and has a lot more higher placed friends.
You are totally right about Genevieve.
She actually comes pretty much straight from the gutter and is really a glorified prostitute imo. She is the kept mistress of a famous Italian painter (whose wife has more class, beauty and elegance than Genevieve could ever hope for) but unlike the better bred and prettier Olivia, she is an outstanding net worker.
She also had a very good social climbing strategy: she aimed to be part of the artsy crowd not the social crowd, which was a stroke of genius. Art people are more liberal, less likely to care about your origins, and the social girls don't feel threatened by her so she is relatively accepted in this circle too, as a curiosity at least.
Olivia, however, was just plain dumb about it. She arrived on the social scene like a bullet and aimed straight to the top spot. It's equivalent to trying to snatch the crown off the most popular girl in school on the prom night.
She got rejected, of course. And it isn't a question of breeding: Tinsley has none, her family is country as hell and she is the queen bee. Why? Because she kept her eyes on the top prize (her husband) and played the part better than anyone else. It's all about strategy.

Oh, and none of these girls are socialites in the genuine sense of the word (aside from Aerin Lauder and a couple of other). They are party girls. NYC Society is dead.

On Topic: Olivia is gorge but I could not describe a single outfit she's ever worn from memory.
Her style is neither bad nor good, it's just inexistant to the point that she could be running around naked I would not notice the difference.

oh my god, Harumi i worship you. B)

that is the best description of Genievieve Jones i have ever read.

so effing true! ;)

and total WORD to the rest of your social analysis. :flower:

Her face is more angular than it used to be. She actually looks like a younger (and prettier) Julia Roberts from some angles.

i dont know, she doesn t stike me as a beautiful girl. she s just like any other new york wanna be socialite, whose too stuck up. like it s all about the socialite life and not getting mixed up with anybody else outside of her social circle.
and imo her style is more like she s trying too hard to the point where the clothes are wearing HER instead of the other way around.

dk if this is up yet
sorry if it is

I think she could stand to inject some youth into her style. She is polished and looks nice but looks a bit too mature at times.

I love that she dresses so classic/mature for her age. :flower: I'm not fond of the Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton brand of dressing.
