Olivia Palermo

^ i agree, she isn't even a model. she is a celebrity. that said, i do think many celebs need to have basic modeling skills these days to land contracts with big pay checks. think drew barrymore for cover girl etc. for a celebrity endorsing products i think she does fine.

that is really hard to believe, as Olivia is prettier than her and he photographs so bad..

^ i never said drew barrymore was prettier than olivia... pretty doesn't really have anything to do with it. it was just the first celebrity advertising that came to mind as i had just seen an ad on tv. and my 'for a celebrity endorsing products...' part was referring to olivia.
my point is that they are both known for OTHER ventures in the entertainment industry, their main profession isn't 'model' (though i don't know what we could say olivia's is)

Why is she only invited to the screenings? I would love to see more street style images of her...out and about in town

Maybe she is too busy with campaigns/collaborations/photoshoots she doesnt go out and about in nyc anymore? :( I'm sure we'll get awesome material during fashion week!

One of things I'm most looking forward to with FNO and Fashion Week is pictures of Olivia. Hopefully, we'll also get some candids of her walking her dog or getting some coffee, too. :P

well.. I never said: "you said that Drew was prettier". What I wanted to make you notice is that Olivia should do something about the way she poses. She has beauty, and personality, and I cant get why celebrities that arent as beautiful as her, get better pictures. Believe me, beauty matters when we are talking about " beauty campaings", or have you seen Courtney Love in any "beauty campaing" lately??

Second, I got your part of the "celebrity endorsing", you didnt need to explain it to me..., sometimes brands use that "technique" in order to promove their products. But I will Never in life buy something if the celebrity looks that bad ( as Olivia do in photos) hope one day she learns to pose better.

^ oh hahaha i thought you were saying DREW needs to learn to pose better, and were trying to say that as a model olivia > drew, hence why i was like WTF.

and by 'fine' i didn't mean 'good' or 'great', i just meant 'ok'. i think based on all her awkward work of the past i am just indifferent to her. i don't think she can do beauty campaigns like drew because her personality doesn't shine through, and even though she is pretty she doesn't have the most photogenic eyes for makeup. thats why i said 'pretty doesnt really have anything to do with it', because when i think of her modeling skills i think more so of her 'fashion' modeling. and i just think 'meh', but i don't think 'omg thats horrible!'

but i guess 'meh' is just as bad!!

When a brand choose a celebrity for their face, they take aim at a social strata, or age group who follow that celebrity and they think that fans will associate with that celebrity and will buy the product.
In this way form me Olivia and Kim K. are the same.

The brand don't want them to be a good model they want the power, the crowd behind them.

oh now I get your point. In conclusion, Olivia needs to pose better, because anyways she isnt selling.. or bringing any power to the companies she is working with..

your point is acceptable, but in my opinion I wouldnt buy something just because Kim K or Olivia are in there.. and even 1000 times less, if they look bad in it..

Yes, there are people like you (&me) who wouldn't buy things because of the person who advertise them, but I am sure there is a really big crowd who would and will buy from that reason even if they don't know it because this little fact is only exists in their subconscious mind.

well thats just the point of using celebtrities/actors/singers in commercials... people is meant to identify themselves with them and buy it. Im quite sure Olivia has helped Zara selling a lot of specific pieces she has been seen with... pieces otherwise we wouldn't have noticed at stores, and that, without a campaign but a street style pic... so its understandable why she is a lure for companies like Mango or Mercedes.

Couldn't agree more!!!

Definitely. And anyways, many times it's not because of Olivia wearing it that it sells - it's because she looks good in it that it sells. Lots of times, people don't "discover" things before they have seen someone they "know" wear it. I recently read an article that Zara produces 11,000 different designs (a year, I think), how is anyone supposed to keep track of that?

And part of advertising is really about getting people's attention! Maybe very few people will go out and buy a $56,000 SUV because of who is in their ad, but if they can get you to stop flipping the pages of the magazine and maybe look at the pictures and read the copy, they have done their job..."Oh, look honey, what a cool car"! And maybe six months later they are at the dealership because subconsciously they associate the car with a great lifestyle and the beautiful people like Olivia...the seed has been planted- just ask Ralph Lauren! ;)

I drive a Mercedes, but it has nothing to do with Olivia. In fact, I reckon her 'Deer in the Headlights' modelling would put me off a brand... ;0)

Does anyone know when her blog goes live?

Definitely. Lots of times, people don't "discover" things before they have seen someone they "know" wear it.

That's the key, she success in street style so much because she's being herself and thats what she knows, its a total hit.... then it goes Hogan campaign for example and its a huge miss  because Olivia just don't fit in sneakers... unless they are Lanvin and holding an Hermes at the same time. I think thats a huge marketing mistake... people who recognize Olivia -when seeing an Hogan campaign to keep with the example- know her style as well and will notice the mismatch. Then you see her in such a nice ad for Mercedes and it remind us of her old photos during holidays and it just fits, it comes naturally. So my point is when Olivia is out of her safe zone, those are the campaigns or photo shoots that we dislike or we don't love as much.

Is Olivia only promoting the Mercedes Benz van and not any of their other vehicles?

In my opinion her being in the ad won't increase sales for this particular car. Mercedes Benz are targeting the wrong age group. I mean how many hip and young people want to been seen driving a van even if it is a Mercedes.

That is the point, I think!!!

Mercedes tries to lightening it up, that their van is not just for business and merchandise transport.
They try to introduce that van from an other visual angle with Olivia.
They would like us to think that to have a van is a funky cool, "socialite" thing
