I thought her conversations with Nevan, as others have said, are terribly contrived and to be honest, hysterical given her own background. My only complaint is that I think she wears too much makeup on the show, sometimes she's just a bit too raccoon. I can barely see her eyes peeping out.

I have noticed that she wears false eyelashes very often, even for daytime look  Did anyone notice it too?

^I noticed that too. But I guess, whatever to keep her gorgeous is quite excusable...

It's very in keeping with "I'm-trying-hard" look. Whatever you say about Olivia, you cannot say that her style is effortless....

I read somewhere that she was like the real Blair Waldorf. It's kind of funny, especially knowing that Blair is called "Olivia" in the french Gossip Girl books

they do remind me of cruel intentions.. and definitely a real life blair waldorf! i love it.

Yes she does remind me of Blair Waldorf as well but that character is not based on Olivia. The first gossip girl book was published almost 7 years ago. And as it has been reported Olivia is actually a social outcast in the UES set.

However I definitely see this girl becoming big in the coming years if she plays her cards right. She definitely is the breakout star of the city.

^Yeah, Olivia is more like 'Jenny' in the UES set.

But in terms of the looks, I'd say Olivia is very much like Blair!!

^Yeah, it's true, she's a joke to real NYC socialites. I think she's a little TOO done up at times. Like, sometimes I just want to see her keeping it laid back a little and less predictable.

The necklace Olivia was wearing in the latest episode of the City with the white jacket at the DVF offices is absolutely hideous! Total faux-pas :(

I don't know why she has signed on to a reality tv show. If she wants to make it big as an actress... reality tv is really not the place to start. She has such a beautiful, and classical face and you just know it just by looking at her that she's very UES. Oh, Olivia :P

here's your answer. :flower:

Olivia Palermo, the socialite co-star of MTV's The City, has been an aspiring actress for a few years now. But despite what you might have read, what she does on the glamorous reality show isn't pretend. "Acting is one of the many things I'm interested in, but I completely respect it as an art form that requires lots of talent, dedication and hard work," she told us over e-mail. Still, getting in front of the cameras does help prepare her for a life onscreen. "I've gotten so much more comfortable being in front of the cameras over the course of shooting this season. The first few days were a little bit awkward!" she explained. "Of course, nothing feels 100% natural when you're being followed by a camera crew, but I've definitely acclimated. I think that in the first few episodes, that discomfort and awkwardness I felt really came through on camera."
Olivia says she hopes that over the rest of the season you see more of the real her. Unfortunately for the young glamazon, even she's not sure what that might look like. "I never know ahead of time what's going to end up on the show," she said. "So watching all of our stories unfold has been really exciting for me." That does sound exciting — watching your own life as told and interpreted by somebody else. No, wait. Terrifying. That was the word we meant to use, not exciting. This girl is braver than we thought.
you have to understand- we're talking about a girl who dreamt of stardom from teenage days. She got a publicist while barely out of high school, she's been trying to work the circut/suck up to Patrick McMullan etc.

It's all about image and exposure, NOT about talent.

And isn't that the way the celebrity cult works these days anyway? How many talentless, vapid actresses get touted as the "next big thing" and treated like their somehow emulateable or in any way influentual, simply due to the work of their publicists?

The end of the day, is that image, media, publicity overrides any real or imagined "talent".

Hence the City is merely a platform. Another form of publicity, another way of gaining fame. It's just how this world of marketing and spin works. Everything is image and hype, very little is substance or talent. :innocent:
