^the North African comment was denied by both sides already, so I doubt its about race. The store was closed. Was it a bad business move? maybe...but that still doesnt mean that Oprah is entitled to shop in a store that was closed just because she was a celebrity.

Err it's called a hiatus, all shows do this lol. Most shows go on hiatus during the summer months, because they figure no one will be home to watch. I don't see how she's "milking" anything, this just happen after her show ended for the season lol. I truly believe if this incident had happened a few weeks before, she would've talked about it the next taping, and perhaps your theory would hold some water with me then.

No sh*t man! This is the same reason we missed out on seeing INSANE SNL coverage on the fall of Tom Cruise...it makes me sad, they could have had so much material.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!

Yes. The 'North Africans' comment was cleared up. But one thing seems to be for certain and that is Oprah felt discriminated against. It is a feeling that can be due to tone of voice, facial expressions, demeanor, et cetera. A feeling that cannot be expressed just by a written article.

Which is the reason why Oprah has decided to cut all ties with Hermes. Now some people may say (as they have in this thread) oh well, no big deal Hermes will continue to press on. Yet let us not forget the type of power that Oprah has. This is after all a woman who can pick a book & tell others to purchase it, read it and they do. Therefore making some Authors who wouldn't have gotten much shine to be on a Best Sellers List.

Also who can forget when Oprah made a comment about Mad Cow Disease & she had to go on trial due to being sued by the meat industry. A case she won by the way.

Yet my point is, this isn't about Oprah being a trendsetter (I won't even get started on many people who get props for being so when they just bite styles & whatnot that have been around for forever & a day) but being a VOICE that many people want to hear and who many people have the utmost respect for.

 if she does her show around this, there will be plenty of material to run away with. i really do wish the best from all of this. so much speculation just hope she can shed some light and all can move on.

Oh well, IMHO even if the store was closed, you should let Oprah come in because she's voted Forbes Magazine's Richest Celebrity (no.1) and one of Time Magazine's Most Influential Person of the 21st Century. :woot:

Oprah fans pray at NYC Hermes

Members of the Oprah Winfrey for Nobel Peace Prize Fan Club will hold a prayer vigil in front of the Hermes store on Madison Avenue today. Winfrey was turnned away from the Hermes store in Paris and claimed she was rebuffed because she is African-American.

:innocent: :innocent:

You've gotta be kidding me. That list was wacked. It was due to popular vote and even the host - Matt Lauer himself - complained on the tackiness of the winners. No notable scientist made it to the top %. They were all entertainers.

Exactly!!!!! Give me a break....perhaps Bill Gates should be the most influencial person of the century!!!!!!

Does anyone know if she did that show after all? It must seem really petty after what happened with the hurricane: "The day they didn't let me into Hermes".

I think that her new season hasn't started yet. But if she does do it - esp. considering what's going on in the rest of the world (e.g. ongoing war in the Middle East, Katrina, etc) - yea that would be extremely shallow of her. But then again, hey - it's Oprah and it's her show. So to each their own.

i dunno if her new season started, but oprah did a show at the superdome talking to the katrina victims (last week) and i think it was for 2 days i only saw the first one - heartbreaking. so much for being shallow

clarification: she was voted one of time magazines most influential people....i dont understand how any rational person with even the most basic education would believe that she was voted the most influential

this has got to be some of the most ridiculous gossip i've ever heard - who cares if oprah couldn't go in a store after it was closed?

people of color like myself who have experienced racism from storeowners and storeworkers do care...if its true, then its more seriously than "ridiculous gossip"

That's ridiculous: the Hermes store refused to let Oprah in because it was about to closed, and there's no racism in that!
Everyone can enter a shop in France, and I know it because I'm french.
The truth is that Oprah is loaded and she thought she could do whatever she wanted even coming in a closed shop.

And sying that the french are racist is amazing, we don't let black and poor people die in filthy water.

Don't believe the fools
