BRAVO!!! I absolutly agree. Madonna trendsetter ? :ninja: HA! - in her early years perhaps.
This day and age days. She has zero pull.

Kaballah anyone?

I dont really consider religions a trend. Sorry.

And I'd find it insulting if it was my religion that was being mocked.

Madonna is a trend setter, she was brutally ahead of a lot of trends but you really dont notice because she's not as out there anymore. I remember in American Life she totally embraced the camoflouge look which totally exploded. She also wore gaucho pants back when she first started promoting American Life, as well as a nautical look. All of which are instyle now. On a lesser note she did dress as a nun, which is a trend.

You do have a point about Oprah's favorite things, though that's not as much of a trend rather than what Oprah likes. What better things have to do other than choose unflattering eye makeup. And if it's such a big deal wouldn't you take time out to at least make a comment, even over the phone?

I'm not mocking it, and I agree that it is not a trend (though I don't consider READING a trend either). However I would argue that the popularity she has brought to the religion shows that she does indeed have pull.

^^I wasn't saying you were mocking it... and Maybe Madonna isn't either... but people considering the Kabbalah stuff as trendy... (aka Britney) ... TACKY!

... Aren't trends another word for something people like? They wouldn't wear/use it if they didnt like it.

Anyways.. I agree with your latest comment...

It's stupid to even discuss this.

We'll never really know what happened at the Hermes store... none of us were there... It's silly to carry on about this when all we know is speculation.

I was just thinking. Why are we still talking about this?

'cause some people like to argue! :argg:

(just keeping it real, baby!)

We all know fashion is recycled.
Goucho pants have been around since the 1960's - Nautical- sailor. Maybe for those that haven't been around that long, and the only image of say... gaucho pants are from Madonna- then you could "consider" her a trendsetter.

Now, back to today.
Madonna does not have the same pull as Oprah. IMO If Hermes were to choose between Madonnas fan base and Oprah audiences- (forget race). It would clearly be Oprah. She appeals to so much more people then Madonna.

She has way more pull (Unfortunatyl not on Hermes door knob).

most of madonna's good ideas are from the black and latino culture, gay club culture.

:important hello, does anyone know where "vogue"-ing comes from? it's a black, gay phenomenon that goes back to the '70s if not earlier.

madonna didn't invent that stuff, she just hi-jacked it. shamelessly, which is what i always liked her for. she didn't have a huge amount of talent, but she BELIEVED in herself, and it became a fact the the universe, for about 10 years, revolved around her self-absorbed little behind. well, you go girl (oops, that must be my oprah moment).

but to say she actually invented anything is like saying elvis invented rock and roll!

she is a trendsetter, to a lesser degree now than she was before, because she's quick to pick up on whatever is happening in the club scene, and she brings it to the masses.

If Oprah is just mad that they didn't give her special treatment because of her celebrity status, but blaming it on racial discrimination, then that's poor taste on her part. Dumb of Hermes, but also a case of "I'm a celebrity, i deserve special treatment, but I better make this an issue about something other than celebrity".

I guess we'll know for sure when we see the surveillance videos that are told to support Hermes story of the event. Very curious though.

Ok, I have a question where exactly did you read or hear Oprah herself say it was about race? You mentioned something about "lynchmob" mentality, perhaps you shouldn't assume she made those comments. Everything I read suggests it was those with her that made the comments about North Africa- but who knows perhaps they didn't make those comments either.

To deny a person entrance to a store is wrong. If she expected to get in after hours, blame the stores for the special treatement they bestow upon celebrities, and not anything else. I for one have never shopped at this company, but I'm interested in what Ms. Winfrey will say, and only then will I make my final opinion on this matter.

All we have now is "he-say, she-say" and a whole lot of assuming. This may very well be a case of misunderstanding, or may be something more sinister, either way...I'll wait to see. B)

I can't believe no one sees that Oprah is milking this for her own benefit, why would she wait till September? So everyone can tune into her show so she can get higher ratings and more money.

Err it's called a hiatus, all shows do this lol. Most shows go on hiatus during the summer months, because they figure no one will be home to watch. I don't see how she's "milking" anything, this just happen after her show ended for the season lol. I truly believe if this incident had happened a few weeks before, she would've talked about it the next taping, and perhaps your theory would hold some water with me then.

...My problem with this situation is that she is making allusions of racism, with the crash comment, (even though btoh side deny that racist comments were used), and won't even speak up about it until her show starts. This is all self promotion, and deffinitely the race card being pulled. I think that racism is such a serious allegation, it should not be thrown around everytime you're snubbed. If she were correct that they would have let in Madonna, then really all she has to complain about is that she's not as high on the celebrity ladder in France as she is in the US. But since that's purely conjecture, it's really in bad taste to make that kind of statement.

agreed and fyi - there is a press clip of her best friend, Gale King, describing the whole ordeal as "horrific" and her "Crash moment". I've been seeing that clip played over three times already the past couple of days. So how can Oprah's camp deny this if such vocal discord is openly & publicy displayed?:innocent:

i think there is something to remember about the press.
in general, they will play up any controversy until they get bored with it, if it gets them ratings.
for all we know oprah's friend may well wish she had never opened her mouth - but once the press has it they control how many times it goes on the air. not gayle or oprah or hermes or anyone else.

Thank you. But let's remember here- that's Gayle who made the reference to a movie that the media is dubbing "a race" movie. Still isn't Oprah herself saying anything. Who knows if she'll do a show on a "crash" moment. She may never mention it. So I totally agree with meme, the media will play this up, and the public will chew it until it can't be digested. All anyone can do now is assume, which in the end serves no purpose because this entire situation is out of control, too many stories and sides lol.

I say we all wait until the Oprah show in September to hear the account of wht exactly occurred...there is no use in assuming what may have happened!!!!!

If Hermes had indeed denied Oprah entry into their Paris botique on the basis of race, or "problems with North Africans" (whatever the hell that means) then their business structure and customer relations mangement are truly deplorable.

It boogles my mind how in this day and age such an idiotic act could be executed on behalf of store employees.

I mean, hello! Oprah made $220 million dollars in 2004 according to Forbes. She could have dropped $100,000 easily during her shopping tenure. If nothing else, most of the time money is something everyone can agree on.

When September rolls around I will be very curious and anxious to see Oprah's comments on the situation. That woman has never used the "race card" before and I truly believe that for her to be genuinely offended by Hermes' actions, that they must have been very hurtful.

Ciao
Jason
