HA! - in her early years perhaps. Madonna is a trend setter, she was brutally ahead of a lot of trends but you really dont notice because she's not as out there anymore. I remember in American Life she totally embraced the camoflouge look which totally exploded. She also wore gaucho pants back when she first started promoting American Life, as well as a nautical look. All of which are instyle now. On a lesser note she did dress as a nun, which is a trend.
You do have a point about Oprah's favorite things, though that's not as much of a trend rather than what Oprah likes. What better things have to do other than choose unflattering eye makeup. And if it's such a big deal wouldn't you take time out to at least make a comment, even over the phone?

Goucho pants have been around since the 1960's - Nautical- sailor. Maybe for those that haven't been around that long, and the only image of say... gaucho pants are from Madonna- then you could "consider" her a trendsetter.
Now, back to today.
Madonna does not have the same pull as Oprah. IMO If Hermes were to choose between Madonnas fan base and Oprah audiences- (forget race). It would clearly be Oprah. She appeals to so much more people then Madonna.
She has way more pull (Unfortunatyl not on Hermes door knob).

To deny a person entrance to a store is wrong. If she expected to get in after hours, blame the stores for the special treatement they bestow upon celebrities, and not anything else. I for one have never shopped at this company, but I'm interested in what Ms. Winfrey will say, and only then will I make my final opinion on this matter.
All we have now is "he-say, she-say" and a whole lot of assuming. This may very well be a case of misunderstanding, or may be something more sinister, either way...I'll wait to see. B)

Err it's called a hiatus, all shows do this lol. Most shows go on hiatus during the summer months, because they figure no one will be home to watch. I don't see how she's "milking" anything, this just happen after her show ended for the season lol. I truly believe if this incident had happened a few weeks before, she would've talked about it the next taping, and perhaps your theory would hold some water with me then.

in general, they will play up any controversy until they get bored with it, if it gets them ratings.
for all we know oprah's friend may well wish she had never opened her mouth - but once the press has it they control how many times it goes on the air. not gayle or oprah or hermes or anyone else.

Who knows if she'll do a show on a "crash" moment. She may never mention it. So I totally agree with meme, the media will play this up, and the public will chew it until it can't be digested. All anyone can do now is assume, which in the end serves no purpose because this entire situation is out of control, too many stories and sides lol.

If Hermes had indeed denied Oprah entry into their Paris botique on the basis of race, or "problems with North Africans" (whatever the hell that means) then their business structure and customer relations mangement are truly deplorable.

I mean, hello! Oprah made $220 million dollars in 2004 according to Forbes. She could have dropped $100,000 easily during her shopping tenure. If nothing else, most of the time money is something everyone can agree on.
When September rolls around I will be very curious and anxious to see Oprah's comments on the situation. That woman has never used the "race card" before and I truly believe that for her to be genuinely offended by Hermes' actions, that they must have been very hurtful.
