^agree, with all your overrated ones, but I love Arctic Monkeys.

^that is true, but I don't really notice it, never watch tv, or listen to the radio, so I don't really know, but I'm still very exited to see them live at Lowlands.

Bloc Party is so overrated. I also don't understand the more obvious pop-punk movement of Blink 182, Bowling for Soup, etc. :ninja: .. Muse are copycats and their stuff got boring quickly, the only song of theirs I like is Plugin Baby.

Ratatat are really underrated. No one's heard of them. + Cocorosie's stuff is gorgeous.

I love Ratatat, Cherry is one of my Favorites !

i don't think bloc party are overrated
yes they got so much hype that turned people off
but their album is amazing, i think

La bordelique i love spiritualized. definitely underrated

I've notticed a pattern in here. Alot of bands that are popular,
people in here label them "overrated" and yet bands I've never
heard of is "underrated"......hmmmm What if those bands were
reversed? Would they still be "underrated?" Or maybe it's the
cool factor......what's cool and what's not? All of a sudden
an indie band is more notable then Red Hot Chilli Peppers?
Red Hot Chilli Peppers to me is still a great band......:P :D
No way "overrated". Here they are in 2006 rockin' out! I can't
say much for new bands who have only been around for 5 yrs.
and can't sell their second CD....example "Hoobastank"

i guess the only way to explain it is bands that are good enough don't get as much credit as they should, whereas other less good bands do.
so if they were to rise to the top, they would be credit they deserved
but everyone has different opinons at who is good and who is not.

anyway, heaps of people here have better taste in music than me. but i guess thats what we mean by underrated and overrated

why do we actually care if band are 'overhyped', it seems a lot of people dislike it when a band they like gets famous and enjoys commercial succes. It seems a band isn't 'cool' anymore when everybody likes it.

I agree about Muse. They are just a poor man's Radiohead.

Overrated
Nirvana(love them, but still way overhyped)
Franz Ferdinand
Kaiser Chiefs
Bloc Party
Hawthorne Heights
Taking Back Sunday
Atreyu(annoying)
Green Day
Pink Floyd

Underrated
Rasputina
Cocteau Twins
Placebo
Goldfrapp
The Kills
Joy Division(they helped start a musical movement and they fade into obscurity, it makes me angry)
The Cure(many view them as too commercial for the type of music they sang but p*rn*gr*phy was brilliant. I don't know anyone who thinks otherwise)
PJ Harvey

i agree that muse is now overrated and somehow it seems to have pretty much gotten into their heards. but i disagree with the radiohead comparison because from what they were before, they've completely evolved from that and have someone found their own sound and are far from what radiohead is. maybe if you were to make that statement when muse first appeared as a band, i'd agree but definitely not anymore. especially as of 2004 and now, after bh&r.

Overrated :

MADONNA !!!!!!!

Underrated :

My Brightest Diamond
Pj Harvey
Sigur Ros
Pooma
Kammerflimmer Kollektief
Cocorosie

The Most Underrated Song/Band Thread

I did a search, but I couldn't find a thread like this. Correct me if I'm wrong. :flower:

I love searching through itunes and myspace for smaller, less recognized bands with AMAZING music. I often wonder, why doesn't anyone but me know them!!!??

So here is a place to share songs/bands that you feel need more popularity or appreciation. That way we can all discover together. ^_^

I'll start off with a few of my favorites, I have so many but I chose a few random:

Sleep-Gliss
On Our Own- The Meeting Places
Market Girl- Headlights
Grain Of Salt- The Morning Benders
Sweet Sweet Heartkiller- Say Hi To Your Mom
End Of The World- Shocking Pinks
Radiapathy- The Velvet Teen

Great thread! There are so many bands out there that deserve more exposure here in the US. I'm kind of tired of the mainstream we hear every 5 minutes -_-

Underrated bands:
Ting Tings (although they're had a bit of some exposure on public radio)
Cansei de ser Sexy
Lykke Li
Corrine Bailey Rae
Ladyhawke

I'll post more when I remember ^_^

^Lovely list! I loove Lykke Li.

A few more of mine:

Worry About It Later-brakesbrakesbrakes
Over the Moon- Colour
Automatic- Dead Disco
The Green Harbor- Deastro
Architects of Discotech- Glamour For Better
That Boy That Girl- Hadouken!

I agree with you, Muse is overrated but their music is great.

To me mostly of the Hip Hop artists are overrated.
