Parsons Fashion Studies Fall 2008 - For Those Who Applied

i got my acceptance package from them today, i was so relieved. i got onto the BA/BFA :)

I'm at Lang - not Parsons (hopefully everyone here knows what Lang is - unlike the rest of the country). If anyone has any questions on dorms/housing/food plans/ etc. New School stuff - I would be happy to assist.

I called today and they said my app was still up for review...

I really hope they aren't 3 weeks backed up.

^they are really disorganized... when they sent me my acceptance there was nothing about financial aid, just a note saying i needed to file the FAFSA, which my parents did... i called and they filed all my financial aid under the wrong social security #, now my parents have to redo everything and it's going to take another week to get my financial aid from them... ugh.

mkd- What are the best dorms and from what you know..do you usually get your first choice? I turned mine in the last week of march but it only got confirmed a couple days ago. I put Loeb as my first choice because my friend is living there now and says it's awesome, but I also put 20th and Union Square. So all of different schools that are in the New School share dorms?

I emailed them like someone suggested and I was told that they very recently made a decision on me and I should be receiving it soon.

I don't know..I mean I don't think that sounds too good because even when I called they said the same thing. If I was accepted why wouldn't they just say so...

is it possible to transfer to parsons after a year at SVA? (SVA also has a foundation year and has courses kind of similar to parsons... but im not sure if it's entirely similar)
anyone know someone who's transfered to Parsons from SVA??

*SIGH. oh and anyone know the chances of getting accepted from the waitlist @ Parsons?

I e-mailed them too about my waitlist and they said I should hear very soon. That was over a month ago and I still haven't gotten anything yet.

And I don't think many colleges tell you their decisions over the phone. It's like medical information. It just comes in the mail.

^My friend had her mom call the head of admissions, yell at him, and he told her over the phone she was accepted...

I FINALLY got a response today!

I wasn't accepted to the ba/bfa program with lang.

but...Parsons accepted me!!!! yayyyyyyyyyyy :woot:

I'm a Parsons student currently living at Union Square and I couldn't be happier. I know a lot of people chose Loeb because it's newer and "nicer" but I think USQ is cozy and charming. the farmer's market, the subway station, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and anything else you need is right out your door! Plus Union Square hosts a variety of events like the annual pillow fight and earlier today there was a silent rave! It's the smallest of the dorms (100 beds) but that just makes for less drama and what not. Not eliminate, Lessen. There are only 4 floors in the building that house students, the rest of them are normal tenants. Loeb on the other hand is 16 floors of college kids. It's known as the party dorm if you're into that sort of thing. All I can say about 13th street is that it's standard dorm styling. open floor plan, no kitchen, laundry and cafeteria in the basement. Note that if you're at any dorm you have a meal plan, about $175, which is perfect for grabbing little things from the cafeterias between classes a few times a week. At 13th st however you have to sign up for over $1000 meal plan. It's MUCH MUCH cheaper to cook for yourself, not to mention more delicious and nutritious ^_^ 20th st is pretty far removed from everything compared to 13th street, Loeb, and USQ but the people I know there like it enough. I don't remember what their layout is like, but I think they have a gym?

Feel free to ask me any questions, I'm a rising sophomore going into fashion design.

Good Luck to everyone that applied.

I'm curious though, I asked this in the other Parsons thread but no one has really said anything. Does anyone know how good the Design and Management program is? Is it worth the money and are the oppourtunities good after graduation? I'm really just wondering because i'm thinking about it and looking into it. What do most graduates end up doing? I've been having trouble finding 'actual' information online.

Also, what are other comparable programs at other schools?

thanks. :)
