Pierpaolo Piccioli - Designer, Creative Director of Balenciaga

All the teasers have done nothing to tease and everything to fill me with loading of what’s to come. In his time at Valentino he firstly became a competent dressmaker to then degrade into such a pretentious smoke-salesman — who acted like he was reinventing water by styling a taffeta cape with sequined hot pants…

I think it would be good if he works with MGC again. Maybe at Fendi?

I like Balenciaga collection. At least people will now calling it Balenci lol

He's going to be the Virginie Viard to Balenciaga's Chanel. The Claire Waight Keller to Balenciaga's Givenchy. He will last a couple of years until Kering figures out their strategy. Then when he's out, he'll collab on some department store/fast fashion brand collections. And I think he's already content with that.

But who do you think can do Balenciaga? It's a tricky house. The legacy is too couture. And recent years – are too ripped and dirty. Nicolas was amazing, but it was him more than Balenciaga really. Not sure you can have a megabrand built on retro futurism. Again, apart for Hedi who can turn it into Celine 2.0 – luxe parisian wardrobe - I don't know who can handle all of it (especially now when they have big menswear and couture). If im not mistaken, there are even separate stores for Balenciaga Menswear... Like before Givenchy Mens had it's own stores. Not sure how that's gonna go.

But i do understand – for them it's probably more impotant that Gucci gets all ex Balenciaga hype. Balenciaga could have been what Alaia is now with Peter... Alternative brand for fashionable feminine clients. But... not sure they can sell that on the size of Balenciaga. And what will happen with their sneaker business? Will they continue old models like Tripple S? I'm affraid it will look like Givenchy that was still selling Ricardo's shark boots and Bambi printed t-shirts... that made no sense for recent collections.
