What strikes me about his photographs from what little I've seen.. especially in the "Minni" editorial is how sharp and vibrant the pictures are in what I feel is a very real way...

Mert & Marcus also have very crisp, and focused pictures but I find them to be very artficial... just as a comparison..

I like that you can really see texture in his photographs.. whether it is the strands of the model's hair, the skin on her lips, the cordoroy(sp?) of her bonnet or the leather of her tunic....
if you were to reach out and touch her (which you can't as she's only an image) you'd know beforehand what she and her clothes would feel like

I have only seen one of his editorials, and it's this one that was in Harper's Bazaar

I think there was at least one more, but it wasn't on herfamedgoodlooks

I only know him 'cos he used to date Marc Jacobs
but anyways, I too think he's great from what little I've seen.

to me he is what I call "a bobo terry richardson" i.e shoot real, flash full frontal in the face, random poses, this "photographic Realism".
i like it mix with Camille Bidaut Waddington. it's very chic, very parisian and very late XIXth - which is the real Realism century in painting - (or 16e arr.)

he used to work with Vogue Paris. did he use to date Marc Jacobs, too?

Yeah, he took some photos of him for a profile in The Face and you could see him hanging backstage at Louis Vuitton for a while so I think so..

I think they would have been cute together..

Ooh I love his work! He's been doing stuff for Vogue Russia lately - I agree that the texture of his photographs is really lovely. I love the colors he uses as well.

Not sure if there is anyone on this thread anymore, but he shot the MAX&Co. campaign for the last two seasons (F/W '07 & S/S '08) with, one of my faves, Elise Crombez. you can see the current campaign on the maxandco.com website.

I do agree, very natural, just like Corinne Day!
