Trends for fall/winter 2011

I'm a student Doing a project on jeans and looking for trends in jeans for next fall.. I'm wondering what your opinions based on this fall and spring for Jean trends in 2011. And also if someone could steer me in the right direction as to which sites or could help. Thank you all

^fur is a good subject, but i think i'm not the right person to write about it because i can't think of any good/convincing "for" arguments:ninja:
but thanks a lot for answering! i did think of writing something in fashion, the problem is that everything i thought about was more appropriate for an opinion essay...
now this just came to my mind, looking at the latest US vogue cover - do you think that the excess of retouching and the way it makes people perceive beauty is a reasonable subject? not very creative - a bit cliché, actually - but i think it's possible to write something decent about it, non?

Why not? :flower: The important thing is that you're interested in your topic ...

^yeah, it took me some time to think of something because i had to think about good for and against arguments, not to mention the short period of time i had to write, but now i just finished writing it, finally.:)

anyone know of any news articles (wwd, nytimes, anything legit) about how people are buying basics (as in clothing) during the recession? i remember reading about this..

thanks in advance :)

i need help, i have looked everywhere, and i cannot find a menswear designer with a similar aestethic to comme des garçons women. (even comme's menswear isn't that aestethic) i need a designer (even if it is one collection) who does interesting patterns and messy layered looks for men. i know it sounds easy, but if you take a look, most designers that do womenswear and menswear don't have the same treatment to both, and usually menswear it's all about suits and plain clothes... anybody care to tell me otherwise?? pleeeeeeeeeaaaaasseeeeee?

again, even his menswear is pretty basic! i'm thinking of more curved lines and more like this cdg sweater: #525
but i cannot find anything.

Helmut Lang?

sleek, rather than messy. his concept of clothing is very 'open' like Rei's.

well, it will have to do, i also thought that lang is the most out there when it comes to menswear, right?

School Uniforms

Hi guys, I'm hoping you can help me and maybe open up a bit of a discussion. I am about to start writing my dissertation for art school and it is centered on school uniforms and their influence on extreme dressing and cliques. I am basing my research on three countries and their policies for uniform - The United States, the United Kingdom and Japan. This is mainly going to be covering the "state", government run sector schools but will draw comparison from private schools.

Below I've copied in a few questions I'd love you guys to answer regardless of where your from/school type etc. I'd really appreciate your help!
And I know this is a really odd request, but if anyone has images of their school uniforms (i don't need to see you, you can cut out your face!). If not, don't worry.

Everyone's names/identities will be covered and you will remain entirely anonymous. The essay will be done and dusted by the tenth of December (AHHHHH) by which time I'd be happy to post it up and let you see it, if anyone is interested that is.

Questions are below. You don't need to answer all of them but I'd love to hear your views on your own school uniform and how (if at all) it affected how you dressed either for school or after school (out of your uniform).
_____________

Sex:
Location:
School Type (State/Public/Private):
What was your school’s approach to dress? Uniformed? Did it have a dress code?
On a general day-to-day basis, what did you wear to school?
How important were “small effects”, such as jackets, shoes, school bags?
Were there identifiable groups/cliques in your school?
How were they differentiated?
Were you part of any clique/group?
How did others define you?
Any other comments regarding uniforms in general?

Thanks guys xxx

^ In terms of the UK, bear in mind that Northern Ireland still has the grammar school system, so you have another type to consider.

I only mention it because if you're looking at social background, a grammar school is quite unlike the other types, because it's like a private school in terms of the quality of education, the heritage of the school, the expectations of appearance and behaviour, but the composition of the students is quite varied in terms of social class, because entrance is by national exam, not by money or connctions.

Where the divide comes in, in Northern Ireland, is in terms of religion. There are some integrated schools, but generally, a Catholic goes to a Catholic grammar school and a Protestant goes to their own school. This means you can tell what someone is from their uniform. Out of their uniform, you have little idea, but wearing that uniform says everything.

Also, some of the Catholic girls' schools had more modest skirt lengths and so on.

I suppose that's yet another factor - a lot of grammar schools are single-sex. That affects how people wear their uniforms as well.

Themes for course/term paper in PR

Hello, everyone! :)

Can anyone please give me some advice on the theme of my course paper? As I'm studying PR, it has to be involved in that.

What have you/your friends written? Any ideas?

I'm in a huge creative block. I have to pitch a slogan for our student appreciation banquet.

The theme is the Wizard of Oz, and it's also the 25th anniversary of the student appreciation banquet where students win awards, voted by fellow students and faculty.

Any suggestions? Here are some inspiring quotes I'm trying to work with:
There's no place like home. (there's no place like humber?lol

Follow the yellow brick road

That's the scary part. I didn't know if I should smile, crack up, scream or run.”

Lions and tigers and bears! Oh, my.

It needs to be catchy, something to inspired students. Like" follow the road through Humber's doors." I know it sounds lame, i have no creativity right now. any thoughts are appreciated!

Hmm,
I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto!
Fly my pretties! FLY!
I don't think I've ever actually watched the film through before..

My research is into:
Elena Ceausescu.
She wore some pretty hideous things, but so did everyone - Margaret Thatcher and The Queen - it was the eighties: Unfitted jackets with high-waisted, below-the-knee skirts with blouses and low heels all in the same colour.
Could someone please list some designers that originally influenced this sort of.. look?

I love that first one, CD ... about Kansas ... it's perfect!!

What do you look for in a dress?

I’m a student about to take on a major design project, and as a requirement- I have to include market research. So if you have a few minutes on your hands, why not help out a desperate fellow fashionista? Just fill in the VERY SHORT questionnaire, reply, and may god bless your babies and grant you good karma.

1. How old are you?
2. What areas of your body are you most insecure about/wish to flatter? (E.G. Bust, waist, arms)
3. What is the most important thing about a dress? (What are the requirements for you ‘ideal’ dress, E.G. The cut, whether it flatters, the comfort, the appearance, quality and construction, ETC)
4. How would you describe your personal style?
5. Who do you consider your style icons?
