From Print to Online: Vogue.com

Vogue has been in the news a lot lately, as news of Conde Nast restructuring and budget cuts continue to emphasize that the magazine industry is changing. Another thing that changed recently is the official launch of Vogue.com

I'm researching the translation of print magazines to the online medium.

If you would like and are able to, please take my 3-minute survey:

Hiya guys, we're doing a contextuals studies presentation and we have to study one garment from the archives - we've chosen a homemade, working class, drop waist, synthetic dress from 1927 that's awfully badly made.

Picture: The hem hits just below the knee.

I am creating a timeline to show what influenced this piece and what influence this piece has had on fashion after it.
As you can see, it is a very generic dress for the day but already I have managed to find similar styles in work by Chanel in 1920's and Quant and Courreges in the 60s and 70s.
Can anyone please refer me to other works or designers that could have influenced/been influenced by this piece?

Contact info & help needed

Sorry to post a new topic. I didn't know where to post this. I'm currently at the beginning stages of my final major project for uni and Ive decided I want to create a series of window displays. I want to use a major department store such as libertys, Harvey nicks etc. In my course we need like a confrimation from the store to use them etc and we need techincals I.e elevations and floor plan etc. I really need contact info for like art directors or someone who does the windows for these stores or any suggestions on where to look would be greatful. I've already tried selfredgies and they said no. They only deal with one uni and that's it.

hello! write about TFS!!! there's people from millions of places and they all chat about something as unifying as fashion!!

hi girls!
Have anybody written any research on the role of stylists in current fashion industry?...I want to write my Masters Dissertation on this topic, but seems like there is not much research in it...and you definitely know what it means to write an academical paper....:(
I would like highlight the role of wardrobe stylists who work in retail industry and those who works with a complete look/image needed for photo shoots, editorials. Basically I will have to evaluate on their role and how important it is within customer service and effect produced in magazines...
I would be very thankful if you advise me any relevant literature!

thanks x x x

You seem to be talking about two different types of stylists (there are more than just these two types, by the way)

1. Personal stylists (sometimes called a personal shopper) .... who often work for a company like a big department store or or high end retailer, helping customers put together outfits. They are primarily sales people ... the goal is to sell more clothes to the customers by providing special customer service.

There are also personal stylists that are just hired by someone to help them shop and pick out things ... or just shop for them. These stylists work for the customer ... not the store.

2. Freelance fashion stylists and fashion editors in magazines ... who both work with photographers to produce fashion editorials in magazines. Fashion Editors work for the magazine ... freelance stylists are usually brought in to do a specific editorial shoot. They work with designers to borrow what they need to create the looks they need ... so they become a very important person to fashion designers because they can provide free publicity.

Freelance fashion stylists also work for various designers and retailers in creating the company "look" for ads, lookbooks and catalogs. Fashion editors would not work for anyone other than the magazine.

I'm afraid that there are not a lot of resources about freelance fashion stylists ... it's a fairly new "career" which didn't exist about 20 years ago. But there is a ton of information about that job in a few threads right here on the Fashion Spot. You will have to wade through a lot of information that might not be applicable to what you want to know ... but you will be able to get a better idea about how it all works, if that would help.

And a little bit about how Celebrity Stylists work (in case you have an interest in this type of stylist) .... those stylists who are hired to dress the stars.

Fashion & Communication: Comme des Garcons

Hello,

Fashion & Communication is a course of choice, that I attend at the Rotterdam University. During this course I'm developing a marketing campaign for, in my case, a brand. I have chosen Comme des Garcons.

The new marketing campaign for Comme des Garcons will be around a new line of menswear. In my opinion there's still a gap in the available lines. There's a lot of avant-garde (Comme des Garcons Homme and Homme Plus), casual (CdG PLAY) and there's SHIRT, a mix of avant-garde and casual in my opinion.

The new line of menswear will be more focused on the European and American market and based on Japanese streetwear with an high-street twist.
The new line will be developed by a Japanese designer and named after that designer.

My questions to you are:
1) Which designer is perfect to develop the line that I described?
2) Is my opinion about the different lines of CdG correctly?
3) Can you give me some keywords to describe the following lines:

- Comme des Garcons Homme
- Comme des Garcons Homme Plus
- Comme des Garcons SHIRT
- PLAY Comme des Garcons
- Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons Men

I hope you can help me out by giving me some useful information.

Thanks already!

Hey everyone I have this French project and it needs to be done on a Francophone person from a French speaking country. I was going to do Belgium and I knew that Diane Von Furstenberg was from there, but I need to know one thing in order to finalize my subject. Does anyone know if Diane Von Furstenberg speaks french?

Thanks in advance!
