Polaroids

omg, polariods, the most beautful and geniun type of photography.
Cosette thanq for making this thread

I absolutely love this thread, it's my new favorite. I just purchased my first polaroid camera after longing for one for a few years. My parents didn't get it, they're very into digital. Beyond the fact that it's instant, I find that polaroids just look softer and dreamier in general. I don't know, to me, they feel more personal. I was going through my mother's photos from her childhood and from her teenage years in the 70s (beyond jealous), and I just don't see those personal touches in digital. I also can't wait to get that Maripolarama book, I heard about it in Nylon.

here is a polaroid i took a little while ago..

Has anyone bought a sx70 camera from ebay? I am not sure if I can trust some of the prices, especially someone selling an sx70 camera for 25.00! There are so many options

Well, the SX-70's are cheap now because they stopped making film for them. Specically the Time Zero and the SX-70 film. The bright side is regular 600 and 779 film can be used, with a little patience and know how:

Most people don't know about these little tricks, so now they're being let go for dirt cheap. Good luck on finding one!

:flower: Thank you!

i just got a polaroid supercolour 635 cl on ebay for £1^_^

would expired film give some interesting results or would it just not develop?

expired film definitely develops - normally - and sometimes gives really neat results, and sometimes just looks foggy or has strange colors. but i mean it's usually cheaper so you sould just play around ;)

i have an sx-70 that i haven't used since my stash of time zero ran out. i spose i should start playing with the 600 stuff.

I love all the photos. I was wondering how you can change the lighting on some of these, just turn off the flash, or is there something else? I have the Polaroid image 1200. It takes spectra film I think

Three things:

One: Polaroid film is good for a while after the expiration date, like 3 years or so. The biggest issue is the developer packs sometimes dry out. If that happens, you're SOL. But 3 year old film is not something to be afraid of. The pack I found from 1986 is.

Two: I'll post some pictures of me chopping up my SX-70 for 600 packs. It's easy and your shots can look real pastel-like. I also got in touch with a crazy girl who gets all kinds of manipulation effects from 600 and Spectra film. I'm getting all giddy typing about it. Anyway, excuse me while I wh*re:

And three: You can set your exposure control switch to darken, to kill the flash a little. Or you can put black tape over it to cover it. Or if you just want to soften it, tape a napkin over the flash bulb. And, if you want to have fun, get some colored Saran Wrap and put a couple layers over the flash and voila, a colored flash.

:ninja: Let me get off my nerd box...
