faust I think that would be far too sophisticated a concept for his brain

I'd think very badly of anybody, famous or not, posh or not, whom I saw wearing Nazi insignia. That goes well beyond poor taste or poor judgement, into the territory of stupid, racist, ignorant, and just plain mean.

Also, the hammer and sickle carry an entirely different connotation, being symbols for communist Russia and other Soviet Bloc countries. Though Stalin was a bloodthirsty SOB, he wasn't quite in the same league as Hitler and his blind, racist fanaticism. While I wouldn't advocate wearing hammer & sickle insignia (especially as a misguided attempt to be "edgy" or ironic) I would certainly not have the heart-dropping, stomach-churning reaction of abject dismay and disgust as I would have if I saw the same kid wearing Nazi insignia.

Someone wearing communist symbols frivolously would be roughly analagous to the hipsters who wear Che Guevera images and have no idea of who Che Guevera was or what his ideas were. Annoying and probably ignorant and poseurish, but not nearly as offensive as somebody who wears Nazi insignia. That's one piece of history which has been so prominent, infamous, and highly publicized that even the least well-informed people should at least know it is a taboo symbol.

Very well said As You Like It.

What is it with boys these days praising the Nazis? Its like a sign of being 'cool'. In my summer school class last June these kids use to always do a Nazi salute. Its extremely vulgar and untasteful. Harry has has just sunk to the lowest class ever along with them.

am i the only one who thinks the wholme story is ridiculous.
for heavens sake: he was at some private party dressed up with a uniform that shows off the swastika.as bad as it may sound its just an "outfit" and not the end of the world.
its not worth talking about it all over the news and have as headlines "harry the nazi" (thats even worse than what he has done IMO)
if i were him i wouild not have apologized. i would have explained myself and would have sued the paper that called me a NAZI....

he knows very well just like the rest of us how sensitive that subject is, he obviously was thinking he could have gotten away with it, please he's not a little boy he knew exactly what he was getting himself into.

I agree with you Leyla...Yes, he shouldn't have done it ...and it was very very stupid!

I heard on the news this morning that it was a "Bad Taste Party" was the theme... I think he definately succeded there! This picture was taken with a camera phone at the party.. I also heard one of the guest stood up and did a horrid impression of the queen and Harry got incredibly pissed.

Don't mistake me.. I'm not defending dressing up as a nazi..no way no how! :yuk:

Even at a Bad Taste party dressing like a Nazi in jest would not even be on my list. Maybe Kevin Federline, Britney, Dame Edna or Elton John would be funny, but not a Nazi. I see nothing funny or ironic in that. I don't think he should be crucified though, just spanked by the Queen.

I'm so bored of this topic now, lol.

Ok, people say it was tasteless yet, we have comedies such as 'Allo 'Allo and John Cleese imitating Nazi's. Hell, comedians imitate Nazi's and everyone finds that hilirious.

Apparently, a Nazi uniform is also one of the most bought outifts in fancy dress shops.

Yes, I know what Harry did was stupid, ridiculous and I don't know why he even thought of it - but millions of people around the world do it too.

I see it no different from when Americans were dressing up as Osama Bin Laden (or however you spell it) at Halloween or that KKK incident by some President's kid.

He's said he is sorry and that he made a stupid mistake. Why can't people forgive him for that?

Holocaust survivors and the Jewish Board forgives him, so why can't the rest of the world.

I just feel sorry for him. For his whole life he has been picked on my the press and by the public cos he isn't seen to be as perfect as William.

Forgive and forget, thats what I say. He's learnt his lesson.

there are kids walking around my school with these signs on, it being a back in the day punk thing! wouldnt say they were influenced by prince harry though.

people do this everyday and they dont get this much attention. even people who dont wear the sign but still are extemely racist dont get all that attention. it may have been in bad taste but atleast hes not a racist! yes it was stupid i dont think he intentionally wanted to hurt anyone.

im not surprised he rebels as god i probably would if i where in his shoes. i think hes just a troubled person at heart, this is no excuse but may help in explaining his lifestyle/choices.

Hmm, it may not necessarily be that though - I mean, he is a student. Students always have that lifestyle (drinking, smoking etc)!

i wouldnt generalise by saying that all students have that 'lifestyle' .

im not saying it is that full stop but it may play a part!?

I agree with what has been said about it being blown out of proportion. In context of the recent tsunami it's pretty poor headline news. Besides, it's not even a Nazi uniform, it's a German army uniform...

I think these kinda things really need to be put into perspective, not the brightest idea on harry's part, but c'mon people i'd be more worried about his previous drug taking etc than a uniform to a fancy dress party :ninja:

There are just some things that the Royal family cant do. Thats why we call them Royal family. And this is one of the things that they cant do. This is just unacceptable.

:smile:angry:     IDIOT!!!! )
