EARLY LIFE
Sofia Hellqvist was born on December 6th 1984 in Täby, Sweden, where she lived until the age of six, when she moved to the small town Älvdalen. She is the daughter of Erik and Maria Hellqvist.
EDUCATION
Following her basic education, Sofia attended the Institute of English and Business in New York, where she studied accounting with computer application and specialising in business development. Besides this, she has taken numerous courses, including global ethics, child and youth science, children’s communication and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in theory and in Swedish practice at Stockholm University.
Following this, she moved to New York City to study yoga, which led to her starting her own yoga practice in Manhatten, where she worked as a teacher.
FAMILY LIFE
In July 2010, the relationship between Sofia Hellqvist and Prince Carl Philip of Sweden was confirmed in a official statement by the Swedish Palace. Four years later, the couple announced that they were getting married in the summer of 2015. As of now, they live together at a private estate in Djurgården, but once married, they will move into Villa Solbacken, a two-level estate that Carl Philip inherited from his grand-uncle Prince Bertil after his death in 1997.
