Putting your money where your mouth is - How do you support your favourite designers?

i mainly buy accessories that i can use/wear often to get my money's worth... mostly small leather goods and shoes, because they usually last longer than clothes.

i'm not very good with drycleaners, i'm too lazy to handwash (bad habit), and i don't like to accumulate clothes. i work at a 9 to 5 type of office where i can't dress too excentric, so i try to look out for classic and well-made pieces, even though clothes that require instructions to figure out how to wear are always really fun.

like softgrey, i avoid anything made from china and i'm also very happy when it's made in japan.

i was really excited about the idea of theyskens theory, but i can't bring myself to purchase a 500$ dress made in china.

^ I had read that Ivanka was divesting her interest in her brand ... do you know anything about that? (Just to clarify ... she is not my favorite designer.)

As for my real favorite designer, I'm not sure how to support him anymore :( I have been boycotting the new Lanvin, but I may eventually have to go back for ballerinas--no one else seems to do what they do. I did just recently buy something from Bottega Veneta. I really appreciate the artisanal Italian brands. I would like to do more with Brunello Cucinelli. So far I don't own anything from him--haven't found the right piece yet. Lately it seems to be a bit more minimal than I am ...

no paperwork filed as of yet...

if you are near Nordstrom or Nieman Marcus, i'd love to know if they still have her jewelry and accessories on the sales floor...
:innocent:

now that so many designers have a presence on every social media platform- i often post comments on them

Well my favourite designer, Bruno Pieters, is no longer designing under his own name (though if speculation is true, he shall be again very soon).
I am also a university student and I cannot afford to buy anything from my designers. It seems ridiculous, but I do support them by such small acts as creating a fan group for them and their work on Facebook if they do not already have one - I am the founder of the Giambattista Valli, Francesco Scognamiglio, Bruno Pieters and Krystof Strozyna pages whose new collections I update every season.
I find that this will draw further attention to their work (Valli page currently having 12,000+ followers).

I even believe that posting here, on this forum, whether it be "What Would You Wear Today?" or whatever, with an image from their collection may draw another potential customer to check out their designs. This is quite a refined source of global fashionistas.

An update, seven years later:
I now live happily in London, though RRP prices for designer items are still beyond the budget, I get constant notifications about the latest sample sales and have bought numerous pieces from the likes of Christopher Kane, Lou Dalton and Matthew Miller.
The up-and-coming designer events are the best as they are often quite intimate and hidden away affairs (they may be in the centre of the city but are often down silent Ripper-esque back allies) you meet members of the design team and you can really feel the support you are giving the designer.

P.s. the Giambattista Valli page is now run by their team and has almost 100,000 followers.

I'm happy to read your update! Congrats!
