How many pieces of clothing do you have in your wardrobe?

for some reason I was uncomfortable counting my clothes, kind of like I didn't want to know the actual number. but I made myself do it!

so about 100 items of clothing (including outerwear), about 30 tees and tanks (for some reason it made sense to count those separately), 25 shoes, 8 bags including totes, luggage etc, and 20 other accessories (scarves, belts). plus pyjamas, exercise clothes, socks etc which I didn't count.

I found out that I have a lot of categories, if I break it all down by season and function, with a small number in each category. but it all adds up! I'm curious what it will look like in a couple of years.

this is an interesting question.

you know what, i have no idea. i guess i should start counting all my clothes now! :D

Cannot name any numbers, as I've never really "counted" my clothes :P But it's not that much... especially because most of the time I'm wearing the same things (my favs) anyway. But I guess it's about 3 or 4 jeans, some pullovers (for winter), a LOT of plain shirts and some special pieces. When I think about it...I don't even own a skirt or a dress (at least not one that actually fits me) :ninja: haha - should go shopping again very soon!

being the total control freak I am I've been keep truck of the total number of items I’ve bought in the last 10 years! 229 pieces (56 only in 2007...I started working that year, lol) paying for it a total of 10534 euro. it's funny how in here there are people that can spend that much money on 3-4 pieces....

Let's see, a buuunch of gross underwear and socks. I'm always joking about my "little kid" underwear and socks. Countless bras that don't fit too. I am a peculiar size.

Too many teas that I hate and need to get rid of. So much ugly stuff. I hate nearly everything I own. And I brought too much of some things to Chile and not enough of other things. I used to have a lot more shoes. Now I'm down to less than 10. With me I brought my black boots, red mary jane flats, silver flats, sparkly gold low-top Chucks, sneakers for my gym/out door activities, ugly black rounded closed-toe heels. I don't have nearly enough well fitting jeans. Less than 5 that fit me decently. I admittedly have a few cute dresses, but not enough! They're all different styles for different kinds of whether. I have 2 skirts that I actually like, one brocade and one grey and a little school girl. A tacky black and white polka dotted one and a plain blue and plain red one. Bad material. They attract waaay too much dust for my taste.

Things I need to get rid of: Forever 21 shirts that tie in the back. I thought they were the **** in high school. Now I can't get past the cheap material that forms holes so easily with that flimsy, miserable little bow made out of the same material as the shirt. This style is so popular here. I see so many people from home still wearing them too. Anyway I have waaaay too many things left over from high school and I had no boobs then and now I'm the opposite (senior year/freshman year of college growth spurt) so it's crazy the difference in fit up top when I haven't really changed down below.

I tend to like sweaters. Especially ugly-cute ones. I have a few vintage ones. One time I sent one to the laundry and it never came back. It was high-rise from the seventies and belonged to my mom. It was super cute. Still not taking that loss so well. I have a hard time moving on and separation anxiety . . . not that you could tell, right?

I've decided to work on more neutral colors. They suit me so much better. I just look so cheap otherwise. Everyone here also wears colored (and I mean bright colors: lime green, purple, orange) straight-leg jeans here. I'm gonna past on that one.

^ With sparkly gold low top Chucks, does one even need another pair of shoes? ^_^

because i collect dresses, I know exactly how many I have. Last i counted I had 117 dresses I can wear regularly. I used to have to get rid of a lot of clothes, cause they were more "what was I thinking" type pieces. I've gotten a lot more experienced with my purchases..so over the past few years, I've found it hard to get rid of anything. I'm lucky if I have ten pairs of shoes though, so you can tell where my priorities are.

Easily nearing 1000.

I think it's because I'm very single-minded; when I decide I like something, I'll just go completely insane with it, and buy tons and tons of it.

For example, I have over 100 pairs of just jeans...I had a weird obsession with designer jeans a year ago and went totally crazy.
And yea...weirdly, I do wear almost all of it. Because I consciously try to put it all into rotation.
The REALLY expensive addiction was with designer bags. Thank god that's over.
Currently, it's wine and shoes.

I'll surely be that woman with 300 pairs of shoes and no place to live when I turn 30.

I went through exactly the same thing with jeans! I have about seventy pairs, and I became totally insatiable when it came to the latest designer that was only avaliable in america for silly money. Now I barely look at them...I think I wore my J Brands twice...because I was so precious about them I didn't want them shortened, and my legs are 30" long!

I couldn't possibly count what I own. I bring in about six news things a week, I'm an impulsive wreckless shopper! All I know if that I have three wardrobes and they're fit to burst. No wonder I'm broke!

Even if you're broke, where do you get the money in the first place? Is it your only vice? I'm just curious. Poor jealous college student over here.

I don't drink and I don't smoke....although I am partial to the odd restaurant I don't spend the money most people do on socialising because I dj for a living, so everywhere I go is free and I mostly get complimentary food and drink and my travel covered. I have huge debt because of credit, and I have no savings or money to pull out in an emergency. I kind of knew when I started this career that it'd be a killer on sensible living though.

Don't be jealous, I'd love to have gone to college, you're set up for a far more lucrative life than me. I just spend on credit, and worry about the future!

Mother hen says, it only takes one vice to ruin your life  This is a really good one to get a grip on.

Back in the day, hoarding was a good survival skill ... you didn't know when you were gonna see another wooly mammoth after all  So in a way we are hard-wired to accumulate. When it's no longer necessary, you see what we've got now ... a crisis with clutter across the entire first world. Here in the US there's been an explosion of storage facilities. Occasionally they're actually needed, but in most cases people have so much crap that it won't fit in their houses/garages/attics and they can't bring themselves to get rid of it, so they're paying extremely expensive rent for it to live someplace else.

It's at a time like this that we really have to bring reason to bear on our instincts

The other thing to bear in mind about clutter is it can really hold your entire life back, and literally keep you rooted in the past. Not to mention the several cases where people have literally been suffocated by their clutter when the piles collapse on them and they can't escape

oh god. this thread proposed a very frightening question.:ninja: I have no idea at all how many items of clothing I have and how I'd count them. And then what about tights, specialty socks, scarves, dressy gloves, shoes, accessories, jewelry, etc. Does that go in there too?

I just know that I'm a collector. I try to get rid of things to make room and simplify, but then I will remind myself of the random pair of pants or vest I've had since high school and I still wear once or twice a year because it's just the perfect thing on some random day (I'm 24 now so that says it's really old)(or literaly I have a wool mini from 8th grade that is still perfectly wearable and classic and good condition). So I hate to part with things but then it gets soooo damn crowded so every several months (twice a year or so) I manage to weed out a few trash bags full of gently worn clothing and shoes that just really haven't seemed to make it out into the daylight enough to earn a space in my closet and I donate them to goodwill or younger relatives. Somehow it never seems to make a dent in giving me more space though.

I don't really have time or desire to count it, but I know there is a lot lot lot. But it isn't all designer or expensive at all. I'd say the most expensive thing is a $500 coat and the cheapest is a $2 cami. I just keep everything I might need someday. Unless it's totally trendy and not coming back (or has irreparable damage). I do try to stay away from things that are too trendy though and I also noticed my taste hasn't changed that much since like 8th grade. Although it has evolved. Maybe that is why I have so much stuff - because I am gradually adding to it over the years and I don't often come across things I no longer like in my closet. And having a lot of it means it doesn't get worn out too quickly.

Without actually counting, I probably have around 150 articles of clothing, 40-50 shoes, and about 25 bags. This is something I've always been curious about and I think it's interesting how dispersed it is, some people think I have a ton of clothes and others think it's completely normal. But everyone seems to agree I have too many bags

It breaks down to about 7-10 pairs of jeans but only one pair I really wear. Less than 5 pairs of shorts, 5-6 skirts, 15-20 plain tanks and tees, 2 sweaters/cardigans, about 30 dresses and 15 jackets. The rest are various tops and I dont own any pants. I feel like I need more casual everyday tops that I could wear to class, I have more fancier stuff than everyday clothes even though I have far fewer occasions to wear them. I also want more jackets since they really complete an outfit. I have the same problem with shoes in that most of them are high heels not suited for everyday, but I cant justify deisgner prices on a pair of flats like I can heels.
