Interview from yesterday with Rachel Rutt on digital-diamonds.blogspot.com.

Could you tell us something about you origin? As far as we know that you’re from Australia, but you look so Asian?
Sure. My mother and father are Singaporean and British, respectively. I was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Japan, before spending the last four years in Australia.

How did you start out working as a model?
Josh Goot s/s 07/08

What do you think about the industry in New York? Is it more difficult as you have expected it to be?
No, because I don't think anything is ever easy. It’s just a challenge.

How do you find NYC in general?
Friendly. People there are open, and there is alot to see.

You're on the new cover of French revue de modes, which is actually quite huge for a newbie. How did you feel when you first saw the cover?
It’s my first cover, so naturally I was quite excited. I was astonished to be sharing it with some very high-profile models.

On a shooting, do you rather try to make a connection with thephotographer or are you more focused on yourself to get inspired?
A little of both. I think it is better to connect with the photographer so you can communicate their vision as best you can. Also this connection seems to help your personal inspiration. It goes hand in hand.

Who taught you basics like posing, walking, how to look into a camera or was it more of learning by doing?
Mainly from actually working, although I won't deny I received constructive criticism and tips from my bookers (and still do).

What do you like better? Runway or Editorial work?
I guess both are enjoyable, but I like Editorial because an image can be a very powerful thing.

Must-have for the winter?
Snowy weather.

Favorite piece of clothing you’ve been given for a job?
Blue wool shorts from the lovely Kim Ellery.

Have you always been interested in fashion or did this just comebecause of your job?
From my job; I have a lot of brothers and fashion was never emphasized when we were growing up. I used to, and still do, wear their old clothes.

What would you say is the most important thing you learned due to modeling?
Everything is unpredictable.

Your body & face is your capital. How do you stay in shape?

Eat right.

What was your last job and what comes next?
Last shoot was a spread for Dazed Digital which is now getting published in ANOTHER Magazine, but the future is unknown.

What do you want the world to know about you?
If I hadn't begun modelling full time this year I would have planned to go to Germany for an intensive-language course. Hopefully I'll get to see your beautiful country soon!

I'm absolutely LOVING Rachel! She has such a unique look; the ed's she's done so far are promising but I'm waiting for a killer stylist to get a hold of her! Definite potential!

^ I have been wondering the same tbh. She's not on their site anymore and doesn't seem to have showcard... I mean, yes it has been really quiet around her in the past months and her success didn't really take off like it seemed in the beginning but dropping her right away?

I was hoping to find out what's up with her NY representation....she did so well in NY last season, I can't believe Next would drop her so soon...I really hope she shows up this season!
