RAF by Raf Simons S/S 2006 review

I'm gonna try and take some pics of what my friend bought- he got more of the colour pieces which were great. Also there were the accessories which I can't wait to get my hands on!!

how much was everything?

I really like the sweater and the cropped jacket.

it all came to around $800. Don't know if we got a special deal, I really think these are samples....

Really cool stuff!

I love the hoodie and and t shirt

Still I have reserved judgements...the white jeans look quite nice, but nothing special. The t-shirts are...t-shirts and that hoodie doesn't look like it's very well cut...

thx david :flower:

hope I'll see more and change my mind

Does anyone know what the meaning of the term is yet? Is it just RAF as his name, etc..or does it have a meaning as someone (forgive me, I forgot your name, but thankyou :flower:) suggested before?

Damn, I want to see the rest of the collection, this just isn't doing it for me :/

The fits are pretty standard Simons fits , the hoody I have is very similar to a mainline one I have, I just buy it oversized. The jeans are an excellent fit, far from just a pair of jeans, soft sueded denim, little spraypainted white rivets & metal bars randomly placed etc. I mean, one buys this type of line because one feels the need for some everyday basics, without over design but still an element of the overall ethos of the designer. They're easier peices, being a diffusion line, but far removed from the "diesel" and "energies" which fall into a similar price point. I'd much rather wear a pair of RAF jeans than some crap "premium" brand, or G-stars....
Even the t-shirts are not that basic, the one i have is reversable double layered. There are some really unusually cut vests, which play with proportion and ones with double layer effects.

Those jeans do look very nice, looking at them again. I didn't notice the rivets and didn't see them on the model. The sweater looks very Raf, too...quite nice

So the clothing on the models is a few sizes above? That's good then, they probably are well cut -it is RAF.

Looking forward to seeing more, won't judge too much just yet
:bounce:

Well It's not that bad. Maybe it's just me having an issue with RS launching a diffusion line. I always thought he'd be the last one to do that...some of the pieces are nice though, especially the jeans and the gray sweater.

its me in the clothes btw, i like them a bit on the loose side. The jeans are perfect, narrow leg, but easy/comfortable around the crotch and seat. Extra long leg. And i found that some of the styles esp knits are intended to be fitted and others baggy, going by the fact that i tried on M's. Some were super fitted and others hung loose and long. I think it is a signature thing for Raf, the play on proportion.

I believe this is the RAF stuff

im just shocked to see some random old guy modelling it... i have to admit its not something i would rave about but for the price its OK.. satisfactory.. i think it looks worse cos of the way its styled. i sorta like the tie up hoody but then again i suppose it would only good look onthe right sorta person.. definitely have to be tall to flaunt that one but also skinny.. like all his models.. a short - average height person with that oversized hoody will look stupid. i also like the savage science fiction graphic but im not a fan of those cut up tank tops.. very few can pull that off again.. overall im not that impressed. But i certainly have not lost any respect for raf tho.. is still on my top 3 fav designer list. i cant wait to see his new mailine stuff.

^I am too (FTB's comment), but from these last pics I'm "feeling" it a bit more. But honestly, this is what is expected.....it's not supposed to be as iconic as his mainline. Like David said before, this is something "to build upon", as in build your wardrobe up. And for basics it's very nice. I like the fact that there is a long inseam.

Now what I'm still wondering......what lead him to the creation of this line? Maybe he wanted a collection of basics, maybe he wanted more people to be able to buy it (honestly, I don't think Raf is the type of guy who cares for all the exclusivity and luxury of high-end labels, he's not tom ford...)

And yes, I'm in denial, I still won't believe that he's doing this to sell, sell, sell.

Don't burst my bubble, please

the jeans look like a decent fit. definitely better than a lot of the others in a similar price range.. but one cant possibly make any comments without seeing or tryin the garments out in person. my rating overall is 4/10 for this.. i think he scraped through with a few good pieces here and there but thats just my opinion.. if it impresses his fans then hes done well i suppose. the perfecto hybrid looks good but that model is pissin me off.. drawin the attention off the clothes to his protruding double chins.. thats all from me..

you know, hes re-doing a lot of items from old seasons in his RAF collection - so you should look at it this way. Raf Simons mainline is heading in a more tailored, mature direction. However, many of the old seasons were more "street" with a lot of music/millitary,etc references and even more experiments with proportion - a great deal of the people that embrace his new collections, probably aren't so fond of the old ones.
