Rag & Bone S/S 11 New York

Well at least SOMEONE at NYFW did something a little unexpected. Perhaps it was a failed experiment but it was an experiment none the less and I commend Rag & Bone for that.

A few of the pieces are nice, but no whole "outfits" are good, and overall it's just okay at best.

My first thought was Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, a bit Proenza Schouler and Alex Wang. I don't like it at all, it feels like they've looked at other recently hyped designers too much and lost their own touch.

There are some nice and uncomplicated pieces in this collection, but for me it's just overloaded and, as someone have mentioned before, it's trying too hard to be different. Extreme layering looks good in f/w collections with all of these heavy knitwears, but in s/s it just doesn't look right for me.

This is too messy and disappointing.
Mix and Match can be really good, but a lot of these pieces don't go with each other. It's like three collections, of three different designers, mixed together.
There's a bit of a Marni granny/chic clothes vibe plus Proenza Schouler S/S10 tie&dye prints and also a bit of Alexander Wang. But all this done in cheap fabrics.
But the main problem here, is definitely the styling.

THANK YOU! i thought the exact same thing. rag and bone has played it too, too safe these past couple of seasons. yes, we know they can give us downtown edgy sportwear pieces....and they've shown that well for years. this shows us they actually have an eye for REAL fashion. this is challenging and avant and makes our eyes adjust in the way it would have to in london, milan, or paris. also, i love that each of these pieces on their own would fit into the wardrobe of the fashion girl -- seriously, in the absence of phi, i think we have a new "it" brand to replace it -- but they're not too far out there to mix and match anyone's casual basics.

I love the shoes...even though the sportswear meets heel thing is hardly new. However I do think this whole collection looks like Wang + Proenza put in a blender. I appreciate them doing something a little different, but I think they kind of lost the wearability and individual sense of aesthetic this time around.

I think this is much better than last season. I love the harness / desert warfare aesthetic but it wasn't developed enough for me. There were simply too many thoughts in this collection and not enough editing of looks.

I think where this failed was also with the inclusion of the middle part of the show (the coloured / hippie looks). I think if they took that part out and developed the original idea (harness / desert warafare / underwear) a little more extensively, this would be a great dynamic collection, no?
