Ralph Lauren F/W 08.09 NYC

The jackets are phenomenal, and the cuts couldn't possibly get any better ^_^

Yup- he really knows jackets and cut- his years in menswear have served him well...and this from a guy who never had any training and can't draw or sew...he really is amazing! :o:flower:

I love it its so beautifull and elegant collection and the headpieces are gorgeous!!

what is it with him and tartans? lol i actually like the orange pieces, they definitely stand out. i love most of the dresses, especially that purple velvet with one strap.

what is it with him and tartans? lol

Well, you know...All of his customers take the old Bentley and the two Labradors and head up to the Highlands for grouse hunting every season on the Moors...You need a fair amount 'o Tartan for those trips, Lassie!! ;)

Holy this is so beautiful, wow! It's so well done. SO Ralph!

But I have a question. After seeing the full collection up on nymag and elle, uh, is ALK's dress/look from #48? o.O Does that mean we're missing more looks, too? *Edited* Off topic discussion

From Fashion Week Daily:

Chic Report: Ralph Lauren delivered his usual dose of aspirational charm to his fall collection, this time calling to mind an English hunting party complete with cashmere coats and jackets in deep purples and reds, fairisle patterns, and lush velvet evening gowns--fit for a ball or a modern-day red carpet. "It was so refined! I loved the equestrian-meets-hunting motif Ralph presented, and those hats! How amazing were those? This collection made me want to own a hundred-acre country manor in the English countryside," enthused Sheryl Crow.

^^I agree. I feel as though the headpieces have taken this collection to a whole 'nother level. They really add that certain something to the already beautiful clothes.

I'm not too crazy about that green right above either, it's not a very sophisticated shade of green.

Oh, I love that green. :D

Great collection - really nice. :)

I particularly loved the outerwear pieces and the gold embroidered velvet dress.

I love this collection! The headpieces are amazing! He did so well with the plaids!

Hilary Alexander reports from New York fashion week

Hunting, horse-back riding and fishing has never looked sexier than in the hands of Ralph Lauren.
America’s fashion king, who owns a ranch in Colorado and is well versed in the rich, rustic life, was in a ‘Sex and the Country’, rather than the city, mood on the final day of New York Fashion week today.
Three specially-constructed chandeliers, made from antlers and crystals dangling from the ceiling of a downtown studio, set the scene.
Lumberjack plaids, fishing vests, hacking jackets and lashings of leopard-print, all accessorized with extravagant hats and caps, emblazoned with pheasant and partridge feathers – by the London-based milliners Philip Treacy and Patricia Underwood – carried the inspiration through to the collection, which paraded to a soundtrack of The Eagles and the gravel-voiced Bob Dylan.
This was the country life lived on a lavish scale: spike-heeled red suede boots instead of wellies; a perfectly-tailored red plaid shirt tucked into a be-feathered frothy skirt instead of a waxed jacket and cords. And not a splash of mud in sight.
Neat peplumed spencers, belted with leather, leopard-print and antler buckles, in a mix of black cashmere and leopard-print or bright, cashmere plaid, came with black pencil skirts or fine silk twill combats tucked into high-heeled boots.
Flame-orange and emerald plaid blouson-jackets were worn with longer, flared skirts. Other skirt suits, tailored in an hourglass silhouette, were in a mix of small and large checks.
Velvet set the tone for romantic dinners around a log-fire in a secluded hunting lodge; just the sort where Nicolas Sarkozy and his new bride, the former Carla Bruni, honeymooned.
Purple and jade velvet short dresses featured black, feathered skirts. Bright orange and purple velvet slinks clung to the curves and had jeweled, feather corsages on one shoulder.
The military mood was referenced in a scarlet captain’s jacket with a black, feathered-fishtail long skirt and a leopard-print beret.
Ballgowns, strapless, one-shouldered or high-necked, in red and black checked chiffon and green and black checked taffeta, were extravagantly swathed at hip and knee, their skirts embroidered with feathers and jewels.
The finale gown, a raglan-sleeved creation in royal purple velvet, featured an Art Nouveau motif in gold thread and beading, which extended right down the torso to the be-feathered skirt.

The Versatility of Ralph Lauren

We know it’s possible to create a collection that looks like it could be worn comfortably, has elements to appeal to young and old, and that offers something for every time of day and every region of America — from New England to the Southwest. We know it because Ralph Lauren does it.
Boardroom alert: Flattering cinch-waist suit jackets, wool pants with enough drape to offer office armor, and bags big enough to carry file folders — the collection could outfit a woman for work.

It could also take her into evening in a stunning long gold skirt of tiny feathers and sequins. And it could wrap her up in a warm coat. And ever a businessman, Lauren pushed the gloves, belts, bags and hats that can make a collection truly profitable.
Apparently he has been talking to whoever sold American designers on feathers and plaid this season. The shows have been full of them. Mr. Lauren had dramatic feather hats that would require a very confident wearer. And feather skirts. Feather gowns. And more plaid. (Groan.) Red plaid. Green plaid. Purple plaid.
Yet for creating clothes that can help a real woman get through her busy day, he deserved the ovation he got. And Mr. Lauren gave back, taking time to walk the length of his runway, greeting and shaking hands up and down both sides. –Christina Binkley

Ralph Lauren brings some country touches to the city in fall '08 collection

The Canadian Press
NEW YORK - Even with countryside touches, Ralph Lauren presented a fall collection on Friday that is still very much for the chic city woman.
A fisherman vest with all-over pockets was worn over slim cashmere-herringbone skirt suit, and a flannel plaid shirt was paired with a three-tiered embroidered black skirt. Another nod to the hunting lodge was an oversized belt buckle engraved with a deer that was worn with a black-and-green border-stripe jacket and black cashmere pants.
There probably aren't many reasons to pack a sexy cowl-neck gown in bright orange velvet for a weekend at the hunting lodge, but there was a high-neck cocktail dress in green plaid that would be a good candidate for holiday parties whether you're here or there.
Lauren also was having a buffalo-check moment, using the bold square pattern in combinations of red and black, green and black and purple and black for all sorts of silhouettes, ranging from short jackets with exaggerated necklines to evening gowns. When he took his bow in front of editors, stylists, his family and singer Sheryl Crow, Lauren himself was in a buffalo-check shirt and a leather jacket.
With Fashion Week winding down, the fashion flock will soon turn to London, Paris and Milan, Italy, to confirm next season's trends that first made their debut in New York.
The overall look Lauren offered was never costumey, with the exception of some hats that had long - really long - feathers poking out of them, and, even then, the right Ralph Lauren woman could pull them off.
The woman who wears this label best is the one who works on a flawless style, not a hair out of place, not a thread hanging from her jacket. She is the woman who can wear without feeling self-conscious a one-shoulder dress with beads on the bodice done in the likeness of feathers, then with real feathers piled on the skirt and a pouffy tulle hemline.

A collection with such theme could not look any better.. This is Ralph Lauren!

i think i am seriously missing something... who is this SOOO good, and SOOOOO chic? why all these great critics?
in my eyes this is ugly orange, ugly green, and loads of plaid and velvet cut in a way that we've all seen before from him. I am certain if we looked a little through his archives we could find it all over and over again.

hunting-downtown-chic? yes, hunting... yes, downtown.... but no chic!
i thought the word "chic" was often miss-used , but this goes beyond that

(and i seriously dont get the harley/ranch look of him)

NEW YORK, February 8, 2008 – The antler chandeliers spray-painted gold were the first clue that we were in for a change of scenery. After throwing what will go down in fashion history as one of its grandest parties ever for his 40th anniversary last September, Ralph Lauren swapped Central Park for Colorado. His Western family retreat, the Double RL Ranch, has provided inspiration for many of his famous signatures, and he reprised several of them today with superb results.

Lauren opened with a series of city dresses and suits in cashmere herringbone and black double face cut close to the body. But he didn't linger long in this urban terrain (smart thing; the leopard-print pieces weren't a good fit with the rest of the collection). Soon we were heading West to the land of green border-stripe swing jackets, red-and-black buffalo plaid suits, and cozy blanket coats. He worked these Ralph-isms with customary expertise, coming up with unexpected combinations like a fitted plaid hunting jacket with a spry little mini in a buffalo check, or a cashmere plaid shirt unbuttoned to reveal a glam necklace (Lauren lined up a stunning list of jewelers for the show, including the Gem Palace) and tucked into a sassy tulle skirt covered in beads and feathers. Of course, many of these outfits will look just as at home in Manhattan as on the range.

The plaids lingered after dark—some, like a winning high-necked gown that fanned out below the knees, more successfully than others. But his evening wasn't one-note. He showed supple draped velvets, two of the prettiest in a deep hunter green and a garnet decorated with beads. And for something more dramatic, there was a black tulle gown with a cutaway back. Lauren knows that wherever his ladies take themselves, country or city, they always pack a party dress.
