Just read this post from Nymag and I agree most of the comments are painfully rude. But I think the person who wrote it is also to blame. Talking about trendiness and saying everybody will run to the hairdresser to get her bowl-cut and bleached brows is simply irrelevant. Ranya is no mainstream role model. She's a precious young woman working as high fashion model, she's there to inspire us, we're here to admire her. Plus, what the writer put in his text sounds lightyears away from Paul Rowland's vision.
Some people should stop writing about models today as if they were yesterday's supermodels who had an influence on the masses. Popularity isn't the point any longer and it's really hurting me each time I see these attempts. These people should keep writing about their usual celebs and forget about models. Ranya is neither a starlet nor a curios. She's one of the most talented models of her era but it takes to be involved in high fashion to be aware of it and fully get the point of it.
Call me an elitist if you want (as I don't want to share my passion with the rest of the world who ignores most of it) but I just feel bad seeing how Ranya got bashed for nothing on that website. She's never been overexposed, she doesn't date a fake rockstar etc.
