red lips and smoky eyes: Sexy or scary?

I think done the right way on the right face can look amazingly sexy (think classic Hollywood). I don't like anything that's been posted in this post though, and I'm not considering red might-as-well-be-black lipstick. I hate that look.

I don't think this look will work for me - I'm just not comfortable with heavy make-up.
Though I agree that this sounds like a wonderful concept and will look beautiful when done with skill and on the right face.

I think both can look sexy
they def can look overdone and scary at times but I think on certain people the combination can look very sexy!

i wish it was something i could pull off... though I dont think that it is... i've not gotten daring enough for red lips yet...

oh god.. i was just experimenting with my make up ..
and did my lips in red with smoky eyes...i look like i was playing dress up as a kid

I guess its either red lips and nude eyes (mayyyybe a gold-ish hue)
or nude lips and smoky eyes

I think smudgy eyeliner and matte red lips go well together, but I'm not at all fond of too dark smoky eyes no matter what lip you wear it with.

Really depends on the person, their features, confidence etc. I would never dare do it myself because I would be self-conscious with such strong makeup...that would show and then I'd look like a try-hard attention seeker

Judging by the right girl's delicate features and light coloring, this look shouldn't work on her at all, but somehow she rocks it.

It's a high flash photograph with possible Photoshop involved, but for real life, you have to artfully apply base. Intense red brings out skin imperfections, so it's important to take extra care concealing circles, blemishes, and redness. The tricky part is that smoky eyes and red lips also necessitate fresh-looking skin; nothing that looks like foundation/powder.

if we are talking for costume & runway only i immediately thought of
Andreea Diaconu @ Vivienne Westwood
amaze-za-zing! strong bone structure plus her fierceness..nessness

I think it can be both sexy or scary, it all depends on how it's done and where you're wearing it..:D
