Renée Perle

Wow! How come I hadn't come across this thread sooner! I love Renee and have loads of books of Lartigue's work.

In fact this photo which was posted earlier by cheiby11 from style.com is hanging up on my bedroom wall!

Thanks everyone for all the pictures and EstellaMare for starting the thread!

I will see if I can scan some images of Renee from my books. :flower:

All images I am about to post are scanned from "Lartigue's Riviera."
Some may be reposts but they are bigger. Many are new. The book is awkward to scan so the images may be slightly cropped compared to the original.
I've included Lartigue's diary entries too as they describe Renee so wonderfully!

I hope you all enjoy them. :flower:

Renee, Juan-les-Pins, May 1930

Lartigue's diary Juan-les-Pins, 20 June 1930

"The call of swallows, the scent of warm pines. Our room perched at the top of the Hotel des Pins Parasols.
In the morning I go alone into the garden to paint...
She is upstairs, waiting for me in her room. She does her hair, dresses, darkens her eyelashes, eats a sweet...does nothing?...It matters little. All I know is that she is there, waiting for me and I shall go find her at the first summons of my love!
She! Who is she? Renee. Above all she is a woman. A woman!
Perhaps the first I have encountered (I am bowled over like an explorer in virgin forests who discovers, still in existence, a representative of the species diplodocus...)"

Renee, September 1930

Lartigue's Diary Paris, 10 March 1930

"Tall, slim, a long neck, a shining lock of hair caressing her mouth.
I see the reflection of Renee's beauty in women's eyes and men's glances...
Beside her, other women look like farm girls."

:judge: So, who else has been holding out on us??? Any more photos? (Although maybe you should post tomorrow, I don't think I can handle anymore today! Where's a fainting smiley when you need one?)

 You're welcome Luxury's Lap!:flower: I couldn't think of a better person to appreciate Renee's beauty and photograph her than Lartigue. He's genius! I remember reading somewhere that he was always amused when he and Renee went out somewhere and because of her exotic, dark looks they would presume she was from South America (since film stars of the day like Dolores del Rio and Merle Oberon came from the continent) and she would get furious proclaiming she is Romanian. I don't know why but the story always amuses me. :p

I am dumb-struck! Those pictures are so gorgeous! Thank you SO SO much for posting them. They are making me so happy.

... I always have an incredibly difficult time finding pictures of her. Thanks so much, Karina. Really appreciate it.

WOW! thanks karina and others who contributed photographs to this thread. Love your work! :p She is so ethereal and one of my all time fave style icons.

This book also has some really stunning, rare photos of Florette, Lartigue's wife. Wonder if it's OK to post on this thread? Anyone?

I'm gonna take a chance and post the Florette photos. :heart:Love the one with her fingers dipped black. This woman had some great nails!

Also amazing how much modern fashion photographers owe to Lartigue.
