What happened to her? Did she die in poverty, did she marry for love, what?

How does one achieve those 20s waves? I'm dying to know!

Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread by the way :flower::heart:

I think 1karina1 might be a good person to ask this. As you can see on the previous page, she has books/Lartigue diary that might be informative. I can't seem to find very much on the internet. I am fairly sure that there isn't a bio...outside of what might be written in a Lartigue book.

Ah, the illusive fingerwaves/marcel waves. My favorite hairstyle. This website has very nice step-by-step instructions for the traditional look: http://www.vividinfinity.com/fingerwave/fwpage1.html - click on the page to get to the next page. It's not a one-person job (and good luck finding a salon that know how to do this), but perhaps you have a patient, hair-styling-skilled friend?

But if you want something similar...they have three barrel curling irons (pictured are ones from amazon...just search "three barrel"). I think this gives you a more fluffy-wave look, rather than the sleek-wave look. I'm attaching a photo of someone who tried the triple-barrel at thefedoralounge.com , but maybe with some practice it could turn out better.

And lastly, you could also try a wig, if it's for a costume. I got a fingerwave wig for a Halloween costume and it worked well. Though, again, it was a bit more fluffy rather than sleek. Just search "finger wave wig" on eBay.

Unfortunately I don't know Renee's fate either!:(

Thanks Luxury's Lap and scriptgirl for the new pics! I really love Lartigue's painting of her:flower:

I did find out that Renee died in 77-in Paris, I think. After her death, a number of Lartigue prints were auctioned from her "estate". Now normally if someone has an estate, they have some kind of money. I am determined to find out all I can about Renee, so stay tuned!

Sorry it's so small

Sorry I missed your informative post 3 weeks ago...not sure how that happened (anytime a post is made in this thread, I'm all over that! :D), but thanks for that. And thanks for the new pic....who cares if it's small, it's a new pic!!! Oi, I'm so excited to see a new pic, I don't care if it's microscopic! Well,, I guess that wouldn't be cool, but still, your pic was big enough to see, which is good enough to me, and it's NEW which is so beyond "good enough for me"!!!! A million karma if I could give it! :D

Renee Perle
(...-1977) Artist
Born in Romania, date and place unknown; died in the South of France in 1977.
renee_fox_pillar.jpg

An original Lartigue portrait of Renee Perle which the Foundation has on loan from Robert and Olivia Temple.
Renee Perle, a Romanian Jewish girl who moved to Paris, is famous as the first muse of the famous French photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue (1894-1986), who is considered one of the leading photographers of the 20th century. Renee lived with Lartigue as his girl friend, having met her in 1929 or 1930. Her spectacular beauty inspired some of his best photographs. Renee also painted, and a large number of her quaint and naive self-portraits are seen in some Lartigue photos. They do not show much mastery of artistic technique, but they have a strange fascination, perhaps because they show something approaching a manic-compulsion by Renee to paint her own face on canvas over and over, almost without end. The Foundation has made many efforts to find one of these for its collection, as a specimen, but so far with no success. We have been in touch with Renee's step-daughter, who has an oil portrait of her step-mother, but everything else which had been carefully preserved by Renee was dispersed in 2000 and 2001 in two famous Paris sales by Tajan. Renee also worked as a fashion model.

:woot: !!!! Thank you very much scriptgirl!! The pictures are fantastic and I love the information! Now I'm really curious to see her self-portraits! :D

It won't let me karma you, so sending some good karma vibes your way!
