Richard Avedon - Photographer

those are gorgeous. LOVE the 2nd & 3rd! is that Kristen McMenamy?

hi helena..i love that editorial too...it looks so modern to me...
it's hard for me to say who did what first anymore...everytime i think i've found the origin...i then find something even earlier...

i do know that avedon was greatly influenced by louise dahl-wolfe and that she was a pioneer with colour...so maybe it came from there...??

these look hand-painted to me... :flower:

Hem.. Avedon was not at all influenced by Dahl-Wolfe.. he has just stolen her job! :innocent:

He will always, in my book, be one of the most amazing photographers of all time (along with Irving Penn)- he created some of the most iconic photographic images of all time, and stayed relevant over multiple decades.
It's easy to see where US Vogue's fondness for studio backgrounds and posed models stems from- the problem is they have no Avedon to execute it.

1950,Harper's Bazaar.(doesn't seem right to have Bazaar and Avedon in the same sentence :p)

Ms Elson by Mr Avedon

Going through this wonderful Avedon thread I saw a small black and white of Diana Vreeland. Did we know that Avedon shot her passport photos? I love that!
Here's a very cute Karen Elson for Versace's huge campaign in 1997.
